Re: Did you believe in Santa growing up?

When I was 6, I said to my mom, "Don't lie to me, mom, there can't possibly be a Santa." and she started to cry hysterically. It was the middle of July and I promised my mom I would forget by Christmas that Santa wasn't real. But then I said, "And what about the tooth fairy? She's not real, either, right? But I'll believe in the Easter Bunny because Sarah (my sister) swears she saw him."
I still remember the conversation like it was yesterdayChat Icon

Re: Did you believe in Santa growing up?

OMG YES!! I was the biggest believer in Santa. My parents (more my mom) was AMAZING at creating the magic of Santa. When I found out, (i asked my mom after hearing rumors at school) I remember crying and crying. I thought my magic was shattered. But it wasnt. I had a younger sister and then my baby brother came along. I created the magic for them WITH my mother after that.

I am living the dream creating it for my daughter now. I hope she believes as much as I did. I am a Christmas fanatic and I believe so much of it came from my strong belief in Santa Claus. From magic dust (glitter and powder) being sprinkled on the floor to looking at the red lights flashing on the con ed towers...which was told to me that meant Santa was near (I never noticed these lights in the dead of summer LOL)..it was simply amazing!!!

For me it wasnt even about the gifts even when I was little..it was just about this man who would leave his magic dust behind, his half eaten oatmeal cookies and a letter with the most scribbly writing in the world. He was Santa..the most magical man ever..and when I came to find out it was my mom who was Santa..it meant even more to me somehow because it meant my mom was magical..I tell her that till this day. Everyone buys me things that say I still Believe..pjs, plaques, ornaments..because its such a special piece of me.

Sorry that response was SO LONG! LOL

i dont remember when i figured it out, but i know that i had to pretend for my siblings. even knowing that he wasnt real, pretending still for others, kind of kept it exciting still

I believed until a boy on the playground (when I was about 7) told us all "it's your parents". I was devastated and felt like I could never trust my parents again!

Re: Did you believe in Santa growing up?

I use to believe in santa until I got to the age were I would stay up late to see how he got all those presents under our tree and then I watched as my poor mom and dad would stay up till we finally fell a sleep or so they thought and drag the gifts to the front of the house on a red wagon it wasn't a sad moment or I was heart broken I was just happy to have my presents I would have let the believe forever as long as I got lots of presents Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I completely believed in Santa.

Found out when I was 6, My 1st grade teacher took great pleasure tooking all of us at the end of the classroom, made us sit by her and told us than our parents had lied to us. That everything we believed in was a lie. Tooth fairy, Santa, Easter bunny.... everything! To this day, I remember the jubilation she had while tellling us.

Re: Did you believe in Santa growing up?

I've SEEN him! External Image

Actually, I did believe for the longest time. My mom even changed her handwritting for the notes "Santa" left for us.

However, I was extremely upset when I found out about being lied to. It still bothers me to this day. I don't dwell on it, of course, but I'm still annoyed.

For DC, we treat Santa like Spiderman. He's a character you see at the stores, on TV, etc, but a stranger doesn't actually watch you while you're sleeping, and sneak into your house in the middle of the night.

If they want to believe, we'll play along with whatever DC want, but if either one of them asks us outright, we won't lie to them (about this, anyway.... I'm not totally against lying to DC for certain topics... Chat Icon Chat Icon ).

We do make a point to DS that he shouldn't talk about Santa at school. Different kids believe different things, and it's not up to him to tell others what he believes in, or to change what they believe in. (I think a lot of conflict in this world would stop if everyone thought this way about all of their beliefs.... Chat Icon Chat Icon )

I totally believed, what a fun time of life! I think I was in 4th grade when I "found out." I overheard my mom on the phone with my Aunt talking about my other Aunt buying cabbage patch kids for everyone (which we had all received from Santa). I was not devastated or horrified that my parents had "lied."

OMG the same thing happened to me but it was my grandmother that told me everyone was fake. I started it though I asked her first it's not like she just came out of nowhere & told me. I asked her the other day if she remembered telling me & she doesn't but she felt horrible that she did that to me.

Re: Did you believe in Santa growing up?

Absolutely and there were a few Xmas where I got to see "proof"

I grew up in the Rochester area, so it was common to have snow. The garage room had hoof prints and a sleigh tracks on it. I saw this as we pulled out of the driveway to go to church. I asked my parents about it (and even as an adult years later) and they have no clue how that happened. This happened 2 years in a row.

ETA: I have a lot of little cousins who believe, so when they ask me I always say I believe in Santa - maybe not the man himself, but the acts/miracles he provides little kids (and adults) each year.

Thats Horrible! Teacher would definitley have heard my voice!Chat Icon

I believed until about 8 or 9 years old. Heard the rumors at school. Didn't have the heart to ask my parents if real or not. I just kept believing. I figured it out when they were running out of hiding places for gifts.
Once I did find out, I helped my mom & dad keep the magic for my brother and baby sister (shes 10 years younger), so, in my heart, I always believed!

Now, that I have kids, its fun to be Santa and create the magic all over again in my own home for not only them, but, my niece and nephews.Chat Icon

Re: Did you believe in Santa growing up?

Yes, until my big sis spoiled it for me.

Now my stepdaughter who is 14 promises not to say anything to our new baby when she is here or her cousins. So I asked her when she knew. She said I gave it away becuase of my handwritting on the label.

Re: Did you believe in Santa growing up?

I did believe. I had 3 older sisters though so I think they told me in 1st grade there was no Santa.

My 4th grade teacher was a witch and on the first day of class she announced that there was no such thing as Santa, the Easter bunny, the tooth fairy. Some kids were devastated. I'm surprised no parents complained.

I might have when I was really young. I think after my father died, the whole illusion of Santa was lost for me. My dad died less than a month after Christmas. Chat Icon

I always loved Christmas, even without the thought of Santa. I still love it. For me, Christmas is about family, love, beautiful trees, lights and not the gifts
