Did you ever wish you had different parents?

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
My immediate thought was "Yes, I wish I had a different dad" but then I might not have met DH and wouldn't have my little monkeys, so I guess I would rather have that messed up relationship so that I have all these other great people in my life.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
No, but I feel sorry for those who wish they did. I wish everyone had great parents.
My mom is my right-hand. If she passed *unexpectedly*, I have no doubt in my mind that I'd have to be institutionalized & have to be on sedatives. That sounds needy, but it's the truth.
My dad was very 'hands off' during my childhood, as he worked 6 days a week. But now, with the birth of my son, it's like I'm seeing him relive what he probably wanted to be as a parent through my son.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
When I became a teenager I did. My parents were older than everyone else's and VERY strict. So I would say in my JHS/HS years, I did.
But then slowly, I grew up and I truly believe that I have the best parents in the world (and I will fight you on that ) What they do for me on a daily basis is phenomenal and I see how rare it really is. I was and am incredibly spoiled ( not with money though! ).
I was a mess in the weeks leading up to my wedding, sobbing hysterically almost every day about "leaving my parents" even though we were living in the same house!

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
My parents are not perfect - they each have issues, and as a result, so do I. BUT, they have made me who I am today - a strong, self-sufficient, caring, intelligent, empathetic woman. For that I am happy I have the parents I have.

No.
My parents really are perfect there is no other word that comes close to describing them. I hope that I can be as good as them. I am very lucky and I am very thankful for that everyday.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
No. My parents are amazing. They may not be perfect, and we have our disagreements....but they created me and helped to shape the person I am today. And they love me no matter what. They also give my daughter so much love. I know that I'm a great parent because of all they've given me. And that is the best gift.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
never. I have two of the most AMAZING parents a person could ever ask for...
my mother can be a pain, but I love her for it... she made me (and my sister) into who we are.
and there just isn't anyone in this world who is as awesome as Wally is...
I challenge anyone to say there is....

I agree... I honestly cannot FATHOM not loving your parents.. But I am perfectly aware that I'm totally biased..
It is beyond my comprehension to understand how one could hate their parents...

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
Now as an adult, unfortunately I do. I've come to realize that my dad is very controlling and unrealistical person at times. Not very supportive of my life choices either (ie. furthering education, moving away). I think a lot of the things I got to miss out on as a young child was not because it was "better" for me or my siblings but just a way to have control. Didnt like my mother making friends with neighbors, didnt want her to have a job, never took her wants into consideration. I got to see first hand once my brother moved in with him in his early teens (parents divorced when I was young). I did have a great relationship with him during senior year of HS and early part of college.
I guess I've just grown up and come to the realization that if I ever did have children, I pray to god I would not be like him.
ETA: That doesn't mean to say I dont LOVE my father, just not what I would have wanted.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
NEVER!!!
My mom is THE most amazing woman I have ever known. She is selfless, giving and more giving. She does so much and expects nothing in return.
My Dad died when I was 10 - I only had a short time with him, but he was also amazing. To this day his friends still remind my siblings and I what a great man he was.
I'm very lucky

ITA.
Working with children, many of whom have awful parents has made me realize how lucky my brother and I are. I love my parents.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
All my life!
I wouldn't change anything, because in some strange twisted way, i think it made me a better, stronger person, but yeah my sybs and I definitely got the short end of the stick on that one.
I have a good relationship with my dad and we've had point where we were really close. My mom? No comment. I'm okay with it though- it is what it is. I don't get sad about the family i didn't have- it really just makes me appreciate the family that DH and i have created so much more.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
Yes and No.
No because I love my parents and believe that their shortcomings have made me a better person.
Yes because I see others who are so close to their mothers and fathers and I wish I had that kind of relationship. Recent events have made me think that I'll always be further from their mind then they are from mine.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
When I was young and bratty and unappreciative, yes. I've matured since then. I may wish they would do/would've done certain things differently, but I am who I am today in large part because of who they are, and I wouldn't trade that.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
No Way! My mom was my best friend My dad and I get along amazingly, but, there was more to the relationship with my mom. I could tell her everything. With my dad, I sort of "shy away". Love them both to pieces!!
