Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
Never... Even when i was younger, I knew I loved my parents and wouldn't want anyone else for a mom and dad because no one would be able to take care of me when i was sick like they could.
Now, they are my everything and I'd be lost without them. After college way before DH and I got married we were deciding where we would live (he's from upstate) and the thought of having to be away from my parents made me sick, so we decided on LI.

No. I wish my relationship with my Dad had been closer but all in all I am happy with the parents I got.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
No because there are many things I love about my parents, but I do wish my mom could change some of her bad habits & some of her very annoying personality traits.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
Never. I might have gotten angry at them or disagreed with some of the things they did raising me, but I never wanted anyone else to be my parents. I had a nice childhood, and we have a great relationship now that I'm an adult.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
yes and no......
yes it would have been easier to have more "normal parents"... i had a father who belched out in public stores right near strangers, a mother who picked on my boyfriends in high school(including dh).... a mother who when ds was born was complaining cause she was up all night in the waiting room(ds was born at 12:30am after 28 hours of induced labor) , complaining cause the nurses wouldnt let her see ds then(cause they had to wisk him off to the ICU for breathing troubles),2 days later complaining cause we had a simple muscle snip to correct a toung tie(hereditary problem which everyone else went through speech lessons instead of correcting), then not talking to me/checking on how we were while ds was still in the icu then home after 10 days(ds had pneumonia, partial lung collapse & jaundice)
No. By that I see things I - do not want to do to my children -. I have a husband that is very supportive of me, and MIL, FIL, BIL who have been there to help through the rough patches. SO at least we have one normal side.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
I am not sure I answered this correctly. I answered No Mom, yes dad. However, my answer isnt totally accurate.
When I was young, I totally wished I was adopted and my parents were secretly rich but my mom was a single mom fighting demons. She passed away when I was young and I was always grateful of the morals she taught my sister and I.
My father, even as an adult I wish I could trade him in a second, he friggin S ucks.

never. I have two of the most AMAZING parents a person could ever ask for...
my mother can be a pain, but I love her for it... she made me (and my sister) into who we are.
and there just isn't anyone in this world who is as awesome as Wally is...
I challenge anyone to say there is....
You mean THIS guy:

I think Wally would get along well with Al!
And to answer the question... never.

My parents are not perfect - they each have issues, and as a result, so do I. BUT, they have made me who I am today - a strong, self-sufficient, caring, intelligent, empathetic woman. For that I am happy I have the parents I have.
ditto, i agree. wouldn't trade my parents in for their imperfections. no one is perfect, so even if you got to choose your "perfect" parents there would be something wrong even with them. and who knows how those "perfect" parents would impact you

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
Unfortunately, yes. My parents provided for me and gave me everything I needed, so for that I'm grateful. However I never really had a relationship with either of them. We never really communicated growing up and unfortunately that has only gotten worse into adulthood.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
I love my parents even if they drive me nuts sometimes. I do know many people who would have liked to not have had one or both of their parents as their own, it's really sad to have to feel that way

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
No.
My parents raised me to be who I am, although at times I wish they would have given me the freedom to do more on my own.
I wish I still had my mom.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
no, but for different reasons than most people.
I am proud of the person I am.
I love my siblings fiercely.
and my life would be totally different if I didn't have to make the choices I did BECAUSE of who my parents are.
could it have been better growing up? did/do I miss out on certain things? I guess.
but it's mine and I love it.
it is worth everything I ever went through as a child and everything I still have to deal with and then some.
besides, neither of my parents are bad people. and I do have some fond memories of my childhood. being the child of a teen mother has shown me a different perspective on the world that I do appreciate, and did even then.
I do love my parents. as hard as it is for me sometimes.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
I don't know. I am proud of who we are, but there would have been an easier way.
Both parents are products of their parents. I have come to terms with this. I have accepted that and moved on.
My mother is one of 7. Born to a crazy Irish father who drank way too much and rolled out with a nutty bunch. Her mother was a violent drunk. My mother lived in the projects till she was 18. Almost all of the 7 married other Irish people from the projects. Everyone knows each other, everyone is related. Fulton Housing Projects. Very Irish, very poor, very drunk, very proud.
She marries my father. One of 9. His father was a crazy hardworker, no time for BS kind of guy who got them out of the projects.
These 2 know each other for 6 weeks and elope when my father comes home from the army. I am born a little over a year later. I have 6 brothers and sisters, not including a baby boy who died in the hospital that my parents never seemed to heal from.
So, our life was the norm around the people we hung out with. Outside of our big family...it was like a brick being tossed at my face. with a hard slap.
They were young and crazy. paycheck to paycheck. strict. he had us all on an instrument by the time we were 12. she lived at baseball fields, football fields, and basketball courts. Girl scout leader. They still to this day do not have a car! but we went to catholic school and they have never been late on a bill with money in the bank. I started giving them "board" when I was 16. 1/3 of my check. just like they did with their parents. that was bs to me. In a family where irish marries irish, i came home with a puerto rican. at that point i wished for a different family. they did a lot right though, 7 of us, no one ever in jail. no one with drinking/drug probelms. everyone got scholarships to college. they are VERY outside of the box. she has been in and out of AA for as long as i can remember. he has been arrested every now and again. fighting.
which is weird...when you dad is arrested and your mother has a drinking problem. but they live to make you a good person.

Re: Did you ever wish you had different parents?
My father no...the woman who gave birth to me YES!!!!!
She was completely absent from my life, jealous of my father's love for me, and gave me nothing but heartache. I haven't seen her or spoken to her since she left when I was 12. I wish I had a mom who took care of me and raised me with love, friendship and respect.
