As a Catholic, I have to say I think it's very outdated to be handling food to give out communion wafers without gloves on. And I am not sure if they still offer wine, but that ALSO should be a thing of the past with all the knowledge we have today about illness and disease, etc. JMO

we have those little individual cups at my church but I think that is more of Protestant thing because I have never seen them in a Catholic church

I always thought you should get communion first...then do the sign of peace later on
I hate shaking random peoples hands and then having the communion in my hand after!
I know I can have the communion put in my mouth, but that skeeves me too.

I believe the person giving out the communion wafer was the one that had Hep A, so them putting it in your mouth would have been just as bad if not worse. That is extremely skeevy to me too, I would never do that.
