Re: Did you have an epidural or go with out?
I went into labor with the wait and see attitude. I was fine with the breathing and relaxation techniques that I learned in my birthing class until they broke my water. At that point all bets were off. The contractions were coming so hard and so fast, I could bearly catch my breath at times.
I was in labor for 22 hours and delivered a 10lb 3oz baby vaginally, so I was was very thankful for the epi.

I had a c/s...and of course that required a spinal as I was having major surgery. You can't do that without a spinal or full anthestia (sp?). Please tell me you are joking about being introduced so you can get an epidural? That is great that your labor went so well! You should be proud of that.

Epidural. I told the doctor who administered it that I loved him. I was really very happy with the decision.

I had one what seemed a little too late....I was in heavy contractions and could barely stay still to get it. The Dr. sounded po'd that I was getting it at this point . wound up having a c-section.

Re: Did you have an epidural or go with out?
I got mine at 7cm's and I was ****** I kept asking for one but they couldn't find the Anestislogist so instead they gave me 1/2 of the normal dose of staydol too many people warned me to be careful so I was. Then I finally got my epi but he never got to redose it or check on it and it quickly stopped working and was totally warn off by time I was at 9. He had two emergency C-sections and never made it back to check out me. I pushed for 3 hours without and had a kiwi vaccuum extraction. It was actually somewhat funny because the nurse tried to pretend like my epi was gonna work and would have Dh hit the button every 10 minutes or whatever it was while I was pushing.. lol Needless to say it didn't, but I appreciated her effort.
I screamed and prolly terrified the floor but the ring of fire sucked and actually I scared myself before I realized it was me but I didn't tear 1/2 has bad as some of my other friends and I was up and around quickly after.
I don't know if I would try an Epi again or not. I survived without one this time and hopefully next time it will go faster hopefully. And dammit the Epi itchies sucked.

Trust me you don't want to be induced JUST so you can have time to get an epidural. The medications used to induce labor can cause really wicked contractions and they don't always work and sometimes babies don't tolerate it than you wind up having an emergency c-section. If laboring too quickly is your only problem you are luckier than most women I know.

I think this is the best attitude to have. I think its honestly a decision you have to make when the time comes.

Same here... the epidural was wonderful. After a 30-some-odd-hour induction, I felt like I could continue laboring for hours after I got the epidural. But, it wasn't happening and I had to have the c-section.

Re: Did you have an epidural or go with out?
I didn't have an epidural or any kind of drugs with my second baby - I had one with my first, only because I was in labor for 3 days, I HAD to rest! I must say that I am very proud of myself for doing it all natural it's a sense of accomplisment I guess

Re: Did you have an epidural or go with out?
I got the epiduaral I wanted to wait and see if I could go without it and I did pretty good until they broke my water. I waited another hour or and I couldn't handle it anymore so I took it. When it was wearing off it was time for me to start pushing so I felt the contractions and everything at that point but in my opinion it was a good thing I got it

i AGREE, i am so proud of myself for doing it all natural, but i wouldn't want to do it again! I had an epidural w/ my first 2, and it was god-sent! the pain actually made e a little delusional, and i have high pain tolerance!!

well, then i must name you my new hero!! I don't think ic ould ever go into labor knowing i would not have an epidural, it was way to intense for me, I didn't enjoy it one bit, but i admire anyone who opts for NOT having one, you go Mama!!!

Re: Did you have an epidural or go with out?
my sister just had her baby- they induced her b/c of her high blood pressure. the petosinmakes your contractions come quicker and stronger. She was in so much pain. At 4 cm they gave her an epidural and she did pretty well with it until the end when it was time to push- it wore off and they couldnt find the anestesiologist. the pain she looked in while she pushed broker my heart. i was crying for her... but as soon as that baby was born, everything seemed to go away....
