No. I just couldn't eat anything after drinking the drink (took the blood test 1 hr after the drink).
The test looks for a rise in blood sugar, so you probably would want to avoid anything sugary or high in simple carbs before taking the test (my doctor didn't tell me this, but I'm assuming this would be a good idea.....)

Yes, but I could have water- for 4 hours. I decided to do it first thing in the morning because I knew I would not be able to go 4 hours during the day without eating. I ate dinner and then went to bed. Woke up the next morning, had water, and then took the test. Passed the first time.

For the afternoon I had to. But it wasn't too bad. I had a nice breakfast and lunch and then after 1pm I stopped eating. My appt. was in the evening.

Yes, since midnight the night before!  I couldn't even have water. I made sure I made that appt at the buttcrack of dawn... how do tell a preggo to FAST?!?!

They told me only water after 12 the night before so I went at 7:30 the next morning.

Yeah, my doctor told me to fast, but not for how long. I'm just going to fast for 10 hours since that is usually how long I would fast for a fasting blood test. I don't know. I'm all freaked out about this test.

I didn't have to fast for the one hour, and failed.
I was suppose to fast for the 3 hr and passed.

Yes just overnight starting at 10PM. I had my 3 hour the next morning at 10AM.

they told me not to eat or drink anything for an hour before coming in. They also gave me a list of foods I shoudl stay away from that day.

it depends on what test you are having. if you are taking the one hour tolerance test, after you drink the liquid, you are supposed to not have anything to eat or drink. however, for the 3 hour, you fast from midnight the night before until the next day. you cant eat or drink until after the third hour.

pretty scary actually, one then can only wonder how accurate these tests really are...there has been much debate on this and GD in the medical community.

Well, this is why I asked. So many people have told me different things that it made me wonder the validity of this all. Also, why in the world does EVERYONE have to get tested for this?

I did not have to fast for the 1-hour. Doc told me to eat as I normally would and I took the test at 6 p.m, in the evening (first pregnancy). I passed.
Second pregnancy I took it at 12:15 and I had eaten plain waffles for breakfast (no syrup and no juice) and I failed.
I took the 3-hour first thing in the morning and fasted from 10 p.m. the night before. I passed that.
