I figured the SS card was commonplace but they are now hounding me for my birth certificate and I just don't get why.

How about if you were put on your DH's health insurance - did they need it then?

I do as well. What is the reason that they say they need your BC?

Well... I suppose it's not THAT odd considering I work for the state...I had to be fingerprinted before my first day of work. I felt like I was being booked! Chat Icon

Funny though because I was just emailing back and forth with our HR person and once I asked her what it was for, she hasn't replied. Chat Icon

Re: Did you have to submit UPDATE: it's an IRS regulation?

So she answered:

There is some IRS regulation the require proof of who we enroll in the Health Insurance. It has been a requirement since about 1990. We just don't normally enforce it in this office. I have been told to start. I have no record of ever receiving your's when we enrolled you. They are just being lenient because it's coming through this office. But they are now growing impatient. They have been waiting since July.

So...they were told to START enforcing this policy with me???

If it's an IRS regulation wouldn't everybody here also have to submit theirs?

this is not true at all. If you give me your email address, I will send you an I-9 with the schedule of acceptible documents. A company cannot ever require your birth certificate.

The IRS does not regulate health insurance, so I have no idea what this person is talking about

Wow really?? But now, they aren't a company. It's the State of NY that I technically work for. Do you think that's why? I will FM you.

You have to submit a SS card - it can be a combo of things to prove you can work in the States.

etd. if you were added to health insurance, you need to submit a Marriage Affidavit & a copy of your marriage license. Only because CA has recognized domestic partnerships and MA recognized same sex marriages- and if we require one group to fill out an affidavit, everyone fills out.

Birth certificate is not necessary.

etd I'll ask my dad. He works for the State too.
