Did you tell your OB/GYN that you were trying?

I never had an abnormal pap, but should I tell my OB/GYN we are trying? Or just wait until I am late?

I did....only because I'm 35 and have little time to waste!! Also, it turned out that my annual was just a couple of months after I had begun ttc...

best of luck to you Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I told him but I have health issues that need to be closely monitored. My sister and sil just went when they got pregnant.

Re: Did you tell your OB/GYN that you were trying?

I did for a couple of reasons.
1. I wanted to see his reaction so I could get a feeling if he was the doctor I wanted to stick with through the pregnancy. (he was super-excited when I told him, so it made me feel a lot better.)
2. I wanted to see if he had any guidance to offer me to help me get pregnant.

I only started going to my ob/gyn, so should I call her and let her know?

Re: Did you tell your OB/GYN that you were trying?

I just started with a new OB/GYN. When I made a apt for my annual I told her that we were TTC. One of the reasons I told her was because I had gotten off of BC and haven't gotten my AF since Feb. Another reason I told her was because I wanted her to know that we were trying and how long so far and what her opinion was and if she had any advice.

If you have an upcoming apt with the GYN then wait till then to tell the Dr.

Re: Did you tell your OB/GYN that you were trying?

yes, I just wanted to see if there was anything extra I should be doing.. she gave me a script for prenatals and told be to start taking them a few months before TTC. She also told me it could take up to a year and not to freak out if it doesn't happen right away.

Re: Did you tell your OB/GYN that you were trying?

I told my OB/GYN that we may try within the next year or two. She wrote me a script for blood tests (I am under 30, no history of anything, but apparently tests everyone should have done). She also told me to start taking prenatals before TTC. I wouldn't bother calling, but if you are in for an appt I would mention it.

Re: Did you tell your OB/GYN that you were trying?

I was on BC so I had a full conversation about stopping, how long to wait after stopping before TTC, vitamins, and most importantly based on age, how long to try before coming back in to see him.

ETA: I did this a full year in advance.

Yes, Becuase we went for prenatial blood work BEFORE we start trying to be as safe as possible and I wanted to discuss what type of vitamims I should be taking.

Re: Did you tell your OB/GYN that you were trying?

I did bc I had an appt a few weeks ago and told him I would be going off the pill after I finished the pack I was on. He just spoke to me a little about timing, vitamins, health, and told me to call the office when I get a pos. pregnancy test.

Re: Did you tell your OB/GYN that you were trying?

I did genetic testing at my GYNs office before we were married. Once we were married 4 months, we went back for the TTC talk and I was given prenatals. 6 months later I went back because I wasnt PG yet. 3 months after that, I am now seeing an RE upon my own as well as my GYN's suggestion.

Re: Did you tell your OB/GYN that you were trying?

I called my OB/Gyn and their office said since I never had previous health problems, to just go off the pill and good luck. Start prenatals if I want and call when I get a positive preg-test.

Is that normal?
I guess because this is planned and not an "oops", that I just want to make sure everything I can do is being done right.

Yup, that seems fine. My OBGYN basically said the same thing. She suggested increase folic acid (no prenatal), mutli, calcium, eat healthier and exercise - but otherwise, give it a try and if nothing happens in a year, then call her.

Re: Did you tell your OB/GYN that you were trying?

I called yesterday to give the heads up that I was done with BCP as well and they scheduled a "pre conception" appointment.

I've never had an abnormal pap or anything. Dunno what this pre conception appointment entails, but I also see a midwife, not an OB GYN. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Yes because I wanted to know what I should and shouldn't be doing .....even though I still have not officially started TTC, I feel that when I do I will be ready physically.
