Did your OB not do a sono at your second visit?
I went for my second visit yesterday. I am 8 weeks. I was alittle annoyed that he asked the same questions he asked the first time I saw him. I said to him in a nice way. "I'm just curious as to why you are asking these questions again" He said "I have to ask them again". My DH and I both looked at eachother. Maybe he lost my chart?
Anyway, it was family history questions. No big deal.
He didn't ask me to change so, I asked him if I was getting a sono and he said no beacause there is not going to be much of a change in size since 2 weeks ago. I said this may be but, I had my husband leave work so that he could come with me and see the sono. I was annoyed that he couldn't just do the sono. After all, you are charging my insurance for a visit howeverm you cannot appease me by doing a sono?
The next time I return will be at my 12 week mark. Then I will be having a definite sono. Would this irk you? Should I maybe look into another OB? I don't want to over react but, that along with his receptionist turned me off.

hmm, i had a sono at 6 weeks, 8 weeks and then the 12 week one. if you're not comfortable with the dr or the office, then maybe look into another dr?

Re: Did your OB not do a sono at your second visit?
At my first appt my doctor told me when we'd be having sonos and they were 6w, 12w, 19w and 36w so I knew ahead of time that there wouldn't be more than that. I know that some insurance companies only allow a certain number unless there is a reason for you to have more. Sorry you didn't get a sono at 8w but i think not having them at that point is common.

My doctor did not schedule me to come in until 8 weeks so I had an 8 week sono a 12 week and a 20 week so far.

Re: Did your OB not do a sono at your second visit?
The OB wouldn't even see me until 8 weeks so we had the very first sono then. Was there a particular reason you were there at 6 weeks? I know that my OB only does 3 sonos (8, 12, 20) unless there are complications and that my insurance only pays for those 3 sonos unless there is a medical reason for others. That could be the same situation for you. It sounds like he did the 8-week protocol with you at 6 weeks so he just repeated what he could at 8 weeks (did they at least do a dopplar to listen for the heartbeat??) since the insurance wouldn't pay for double billing for something that was just done two weeks prior.
If it's upsetting you, though, by all means you can consider changing practices. I just don't know if the experience you're describing means something is wrong with your doctor though. What's most important is the care you are given and how comfortable you feel with the practice.

Re: Did your OB not do a sono at your second visit?
Most OBs only do 2 or 3 sonos the entire pregnancy. That's all the insurance covers. My OB does them at every appointment, but he doesn't get paid by the insurance company for doing them.
You should ask when you can expect sonos so that you know for the future. But if you're not comfortable with the practice, then maybe consider switching doctors.

Re: Did your OB not do a sono at your second visit?
Almost every insurance company has a set limit to the number of sonos they will approve per pregnancy unless it is a high risk. While it would be amazing to have one every visit, it just isn't practical. Were you scheduled for a sono and he just didn't do one? I'd be annoyed if that were the case, not if you were just expecting to have one.
I know at my first visit he did a quick q/a of family history but then had me come back to see the PA who did a full family history work up and ordered all the different blood tests, adding what she saw fit.
I don't think you need to find a different OB, just know more about what to expect at future appts.

Re: Did your OB not do a sono at your second visit?
I had a sono at every appt...not high risk...just the machine is there and my dr. does it at every appt. I honestly can't imagine what appts would be like without a sono every time?
ETA if you need a new OB I am in LOVE with mine!!! He's in Garden City...very popular on here. FM me for info.

This is me too, but different OB located in Patchogue. He loves his sono machine, and turns on the 3D too!
