Re: Did your primary obgyn deliver your DC? Did the practice rotate doctors?

my practice has one doctor that delivers--that is what i wanted. i saw him for every appt and he delivered both of my kids. he had backup doctors for the 1 week a year he went away.

i never wanted a practice that had more than one doctor either for my ob or my ped.

my reg ob did the delivery...but if it wasnt her shift i would have been with the other dr.

although i took a chance cuz the other ob is a man and mine was a woman and i only like to go to women...so i never even met him.

when i got discharged...the other ob did it.

Mine rotates, but I make appts. with whoever I want. I had a main one though throughout, no guarantee she'd deliver me and she didn't - it was someone else. There was only 1 woman I did NOT like and she almost induced me but I was able to have them wait another day - the dr. that ended up delivering DS was one I never met but she was awesome!

The practice I use has one OB/GYN and the other two docs dropped the OB and now do strictly GYN - too much liability. That being said they have a cross practice that covers for them at LIJ. When I went into labor, my doc was on his way back from vacation literally pulling into his house. The doc on call was from the cross practice. She detemined my need for a c-section and as I was being prepped, my OB came right in - they delivered Abby together.

I was a special case. My OB delivered me, so he delivered my DD. I would not have had it any other way. I did see one other OB in the practice exactly once for my amnio.

My primary OB didn't deliver DS - actually NO ONE from the practice did because no one was on call when I went into labor. DS was delivered by a doctor I never met before from another practice.

Re: Did your primary obgyn deliver your DC? Did the practice rotate doctors?

My practice has 2 doctors and I always saw one of them. On the day I delivered, the other doctor was on call and I spent the entire day with him and he was great!

When I started pushing, my regular OB/GYN came (once she was done with her office appointments) and helped me to deliver. I ended up with a c-section and both doctors actually performed the surgery.

Now the office makes you see both doctors during the course of your pregnancy so you get to know both doctors.

DW has 2 doctors...for delivery of DD, they were both there. She was high risk and i think they wanted all hands on deck for the delivery... DW was a C-Section

There are several OBs at my practice. My primary OB was actually on call when I went into labor, but he got stuck in a c-section so a different OB delivered me. Honestly, the nurses take care of you most of the time and the OB comes in at the very end so I didn't care who caught the baby Chat Icon

Re: Did your primary obgyn deliver your DC? Did the practice rotate doctors?

My practice has 7 Drs. My primary told me she RARELY misses any of her paitents deliveries.

I had a scheduled induction, I needed to be induced at 39 weeks. And it so happened that my Dr. was not on call and was actually on vacation. I was disappointed at first, but at the end of the day while I was pushing, I really didn't care who was down there to pull the baby out.

Besides, I only saw the Dr. twice while I was in labor. Once to break my water and then at the very end of my pushing to pull DD out.

I go to a practice with 5 delivering OBGYNs, and they make you see all 5 during your pregnancy so that you at least know the one who delivers you. I did have one who I considered my primary bc I always saw her previously for my yearly exams. she did not deliver DD, but I now LOVE the dr. who did. I think he will be my primary from now on.
I prefer it this way, bc if there is only one dr and he/she is not on call when you deliver, you will get someone who you probably never met before. I'm in queens, so sorry, I can't recommend my dr.

My office is the same way, and unfortunately, the one doctor I was not happy with at all is the one who delivered DD. It was a scheduled induction, and she showed up 2 hours late! So annoying. She barely delivered DD-- the nurse did much more work than she did-- she basically just stitched me up and delivered the placenta!

Re: Did your primary obgyn deliver your DC? Did the practice rotate doctors?

No - my practice has 3 OBs and they like you to see all of them during your pregnancy since whomever is on call is who will deliver you. I really liked all 3 of them though the one I saw the least was the OB who delivered me - he was great though and at the hospital checking on me all day - he did not just pop in at the end. My appointments never got cancelled but they did have to get rescheduled now and then - I would get a call the morning of if the doctor I was supposed to see was stuck in the hospital (I think the on-call doctor sticks around until all the labors that came on during his service are delivered so sometimes that can run late), and would get moved to another doctor that same morning or the next day - it was never a real problem or anything and really only happened a few times my entire pregnancy. When you consider how many appointments I had, it was a very small percentage. My OB is in midtown, in the 40s, near GC - if you want their info, FM me.
