Difference between a studio apt and a 1 bedroom?
What do you think is the main difference?
We had my BIL living upstairs from us but he would rather spend his money on other things and moved out.
Then we had BIL's friend living with us and found out the reason why he hasn't been around in 3 weeks or so is because he was in jail....so we want him out ASAP.
We would like to keep renting out our upstairs for the extra cash for now, but don't know if its considered a studio/1 bedroom or neither.
There isn't much up there...it was more of just living space since the guys living up there were 23 and didn't cook.
It's the upstairs of a cape. Its got 2 large bedrooms, but one bedroom is set up kind of like the kitchen/living room. There is a fridge, counter top, table, hotplate and microwave. No stove/sink.
Both guys put a couch and a tv in that room as well.
Then in the middle of the two rooms is a bathroom with shower stall (no tub).
Then the other room is used as the "bedroom"
Is it even worth renting out? I'm sure most normal people would want a stove and a sink in their kitchen.

The main difference to me would be that a studio is just one big room (kitchen, living area, bedroom area) plus a bathroom while a 1-br has a separate room as a bedroom.
I guess I'd try to rent it out and see what happens, it wouldn't hurt!

Is that a legal apartment without a proper kitchen? If it isn't legal, I'd be afraid to advertise it or rent to a stranger.

If you have a separate room to put a bed in, I would consider it a 1 bedroom.

i was gonna say the same thing... you gotta be careful when renting to people who aren't friends/family. i'd be afraid to advertise it, because it doesn't sound like it would be considered a legal apartment... maybe look for someone you know and do it by word of mouth...
