differences between boy & girl babies
So, I've heard forever that boy babies tend to develop physically sooner and girl babies tend to develop verbally sooner.
From my experiences with Liam, this seems to be true. He was an early sitter, crawler, claps hands, dances, cruiser, walker, and now climber. He still only doing baby babble (I hope I get a mama SOON). He's 1 years old.
Just curious if others think or sense this to? (no drama please, I know how these things can turn)

Re: differences between boy & girl babies
Our sons are just about the same age and so far this is exactly what I'm finding with him. I did get a mama several weeks ago but he still pretty much only babbles dada, baba, lala, and a bunch of other consonant sounds. He is a very physical baby, though, and is starting to get the hang of running now.

Re: differences between boy & girl babies
Well DS was early at it all too. I've heard the same, but I don't believe it. He turned over at 4 months, crawed at 6, walked by 9 and hasn't sat down since. I do get Mama (towards me) and we do get daddddaaaa, sometimes towards DH. I think its all by chance, some sooner than later. Depends on the kid.

Re: differences between boy & girl babies
I find my DS incredibly strong. He was pulling up to standing at 4 mos. However, he is not terribly coordinated at all. He didn't "grasp" clapping hands until like 10 mos or so, he wont color on paper for more than 30 seconds and that is really just banging the crayon around, but he can figure out how to climb up on things that should not be possible to reach He said his 1st word at 6 months, and didn't crawl until after that. I really think it is just about the individual child, and what they have the interest in or feel the need to do at a specific time.

Re: differences between boy & girl babies
My DH doesn't pay attention to any of that He rolled early-ish (3 months) but didn't sit up till 7 months, crawled at 9.5 months, walked at 15 months, and didn't have his first real words till after a year.
But he does have very good fine motor skills, and he understands absolutely everything I say (which is scary!) so really, I don't know what to think.
I am fascinated to see how DD will develop!

Re: differences between boy & girl babies
I have no idea as my son is only 4 months but my dd was an early talker and was pretty advanced for her age, in comparision to other kids her age, both boys and girls

Re: differences between boy & girl babies
From all the kids EJ's age, I can tell you that all the girls are faster than boys in average.
But the articles confirm it. Girls are potty trained sooner, they have puberty sooner, etc...
Boys stay home until they are 30+.

Re: differences between boy & girl babies
It wasn't true in my daughter's case. She hit all of her physical milestones way earlier than anr of her language ones. Her 1st and only word until almost 1yr was dada. She didn't have a language explosion until after 18 months. Up until that point she prob only had 6 words.
I always say I gave birth to a monkey because from day one she was always moving.

Well, I don't find this at all. The seem to be doing everything at about the same times - maybe within a week or so.

Re: differences between boy & girl babies
Same here. DS is 10 months and talks non-stop. He literally just learned to crawl two days after christmas. It took him forever to roll over but was pretty on target for sitting up. He started pulling up last month.

Re: differences between boy & girl babies
I think the only thing DS did on the early side was sit up. He had no interest in rolling and didn't crawl until pretty late. He cruises, but doesn't walk.
He really isn't talking, but he understands a lot. By 6 months, he understood and was able to give hugs and (open mouth sloppy ) kisses. By 9 months, he understood what clap hands, shake, jump and nurse meant. He understands when I say breakfast/lunch/dinner and drink water. I have no idea where he is compared to others his age, but it's to see that he understands quite a few things that I say to him.

Re: differences between boy & girl babies
Both my kids hit their milestones at the same time but Grace was definately more verbal than Jack in. That may have to do with the fact that he uses a pacifer and she didn't though.

Re: differences between boy & girl babies
It's been true for my kids.
DD sat up at 6 monts, crawled after 8 months, started standing at 9 months & walking at 10 months. However, she started with the baby babbles pretty early & between 7-8 months looked at the cat one day & shouted out "TAT!" By a year old we'd pretty much lost count of how many words she spoke. By 2 she was conversational & completely understandable.
DS sat up at 4.5 months, crawled at 5.5 months, pulled to standing around 6.5 months, stood unsupported at 8 months. He's 9 months on Saturday & it certainly looks like he'll be walking by 10 months. However, at 9 months old, he says "mama", "baba" "yay" ("Ayyyyyy" said while clapping) & little baby babbles. We haven't gotten a "Dada" yet or any "real words".

Re: differences between boy & girl babies
i don't have too much to go on except that i have a DD and SIL has a DS. they are 9 days apart (6 months old) and he is all over the place. rolling over constantly, sitting up unsupported for long periods of time, etc. Physically, he is way ahead of DD who has rolled over like 5 times and is not sitting unsupported yet. Verbally, she babbles a lot more and is always squealing and he very quiet. she also is such an easy baby...she hardly ever cries where he is much more "needy." again, much may not be based on gender, but it is interesting.
