It wasn't that long ago that Saudi police let young girls and women burn to death in a school. They did not have the head covering (name escapes me right now) that, by law, must be worn when outside, so they would not let them out of the house.
This, sadly, is progress for them. They have a long, long, long way to go.

I edited my post -- I wrote it correctly. It was a school fire, not a home fire.
Just as tragic, though.

I went to Saudi for work back in both '97 and '98. In total I lived there for 6 months (in 3 month incremements). I talked to many, MANY natives (both men and women) and I tell you, some of the things I learned/heard/saw would make your hair stand on end.
