different schedules
anyone have a different schedule from their SO?
Is it hard to deal with?
one person would have reg mon-fri 9-5 type hours, the other person would have retail hours... late nights, weekends, overnights, etc. NOt all the time of course, but retail hrs tend to vary a lot.

Re: different schedules
I'm about to go to nights. I also did overnights for my internship and got a taste of it. And eventhough i worked during the day, i was still in school nights for the past 3 years. It's not ideal, but its not as bad as i thought it would be, either. It helps your prioritize time with each other when you DO have time off together... and, also gives you some time to yourself (which we've both grown to appreciate).
In our situation, it doesn't work out too bad. DH gets home at around 4:15pm, i leave around 6:15pm, so we get to have dinner together. Then, depending on when i get home in the morning, sometimes we were able to have breakfast together, sometimes we werent.
The important thing, though, is to just make the most out of the time that you have together. I may only see DH for an hour that day, but we make that whole time about each other.

Re: different schedules
I work M - Fri 9 - 5. DH works 5 days a week midnight - 8 am and every week his days off are different. Once every 6 weeks he has a weekend off. We eat together with DS and when he is off on the weekend we try to do family things.

your DH's schedule sounds like my DH's city sanatation schedule!!
The past 2 weeks he has been 4-midnight with one night off during the week, while I work 9:30 -4:30
Usually Dh works days for 2 days, 4-midnight 2 days, off for one and days again for 2 days. His day off rotates every week, and he has Sundays off (unless he can work O/T)
It definatly takes some getting used to !!

Re: different schedules
i work 8:15 to 4 monday through friday - pretty typical.
my DH's schedule changes every week... it's frustrating but he works a rotating shift so we know what to expect.
he is off mon/tues one week, tues/wed the next week, wed/thurs the week after and thurs/fri the next week. then he has off two three-day weekends in a row.
it suck$ and it doesn't. we only get two weekends together every 5/6 weeks but it's really helpful when he is off during the week and can get a lot of stuff done that would normally have to wait till the weekend - and he can do it without me underfoot
it will also work out really well when arrives - we will only need day care 3 days a week, 4 days every 5/6 weeks.

Re: different schedules
I wrote the book on this. Hubby is a cop- works nights - and also rarely has a weekend or holiday off. The working nights part isn't bad- I got used to sleeping alone- and over my fear. I also like that we both have our alone time when we get home from work...
But the weekends and holidays- that just STINKS big time!
And yes- I am LONELY- a LOT!!!

Re: different schedules
My DH and I have opposite schedules. The one saving grace is we eat dinner together but, he often has "meetings" for volunteer stuff so it eats into "our" time. The other saving grace is he has off on Saturday evening and Sunday -- steady. Holidays are hit and miss.
It's not easy to sleep alone in a house. And it stinks when you dont have them around. For me, it stinks because I have no girlfriends where I live so it gets lonely...
Good Luck!

Sounds exactly my hubby's cop schedule!

Yes. DH owns a retail store. It’s a SCUBA diving shop so he works 12pm - 7pm and works weekends. In the summer he also has dives off the boat so he leaves at 5:30am and then goes to the store after the dives so he’s gone like 5:30am – 5pm. I work M-F 9-6:30ish, but I am a tax accountant so in the winter I work 6:30am – 9:30pm and on the weekends.

I wouldn't say it's 'hard to deal with' but I miss him. It really suck$ the most in the summer because people have BBQs and GTGs and he’s not around I get a bit lonely in the summer and go to the beach alone, which is a bit of a drag but I think we appreciate our time together more than other people. We really enjoy each other and the time we spend together. I don’t feel either of us ever takes the other for granted. We have our hobbies and things we enjoy that we’ll do since we each have times when the other is just working a lot.

Re: different schedules
Dh worked 7-330p
I worked 9-12 at a pt job and then 3-1130 at my ft job.
I was driving to Queens so it made it that much worse.
It sucked. I can't lie.
