Different types of formulas

My DS is 3.5 weeks and I have been BFing, rarely supplementing. However, last night was a rough one! He woke at 3 and felt like he was feeing forever and never satisfied and did not go back to sleep until 6:30, after I gave him a ready to feed bottle of Enfamil I had received in the hospital. I was thinking about supplementing at some point in the evening hours because I am too tired to BF. My question is that I received cans from Similac and ENfamil from family members and friends who had them and were not using them. Now I have all of these different types (soy, lipil, etc.). What do I do with them? CAn I use them all or will the different types affect his digestive system. I would hate to get rid of all these different formulas seeing how expensive they are! Also, can I use tap water to mix the formula? I haven't made any yet!

Re: Different types of formulas

I would use any lipil formula. Don't use soy yet...there is no need if your baby is fine with the regular lipil (enfamil or similac, they are the same). Soy is usually for babies who have a dairy allergy. It wouldn't hurt him, but no need for it...

Also, I used both tap and bottled water, whatever was handy.

I use tap water for the formula--it's tested more than bottled water, so I trust it more. While my ped said it was unecessary, I boil it too, let the water cool, then make his bottles.

As for formulas, I would stick to one brand/type, especially with an infant. When DC is older you may be able to experiment, but I know my DS didn't react well when we switched him from Similac Advance to Sensitive, then back to Advance. We stuck with Sensitve which seems to work for him.

I can't answer about the formula but I can tell you it does get better, your DS is probably going through a growth spurt. My DS is 3 months and basically wakes up at night only to eat and falls right back to sleep....its only 20-30 minutes and he's done.

The weird thing is that he sleeps alot during the day, but this past week, 3 out of the 7 days he was up at night. I don't know if he has his days/nights mixed up. My DH tried to keep him up yesterday so he would sleep at night, but that didn't work. My mom thought maybe he had gas, so I used those Mylocin (sp?) drops. When do you use them...as a preventative thing or when he is crying? My mother laughs at me because I had one bad night and I am freaking out, but it is exhausting when you don't sleep well!!
