Diffuser attachment to hair dryer? How do you use it?

What does a diffuser do? Do you use it on soaking wet hair, damp hair, what works best?

Damp hair

you just hold the dryer next to your head and sort of loosely scrunch your hair as the air dries it

I use it on wet hair....the wetter my curly hair is the less frizzy it gets and the better the curls are. I lean my head to one side and let the hair fall into the diffuser (pointing the diffuser up towards the scalp). I actually hold it on each section of hair for about 20 seconds or until I can't stand the heat anymore. I try not to scrunch it except towards the end....the more you touch it, the worse your hair turns out.
