Digging Out of Yard
My puppy has been digging under the fence and getting out into our neighbors yards. What can I do to solve this problem?

Re: Digging Out of Yard
He needs more interactive play with you guys. Misty would dig holes all over our yard if we just left her out there...it's very hard for them to entertain themselves. Take the pup for walks, go to the park with him, let him see and sniff different things.
Warren Eckstein says it best - "How bored would you be if you had to spend all your time in the same room with the same stuff every day?"

He's a puggle. We spend every afternoon after work outside with him as well as socialize him with other dogs in our family on weekend. He's also walked whenever the weather is good.

He probably needs more walks then...most dogs want/need to be walked every day unless it's raining.
It's also hard cuz the beagle part of puggles are diggers, so it may be an instinctual thing.

Re: Digging Out of Yard
We had to buy cement blocks and put them under the fence so he can't dig out. And we bought a HUGE pen for him outside which he loves when it is warmer out.

Re: Digging Out of Yard
Some dogs are just diggers, has nothing to do with lack of exercise. I would secure the yard so he does not get out again and get hurt, stolen etc. I would not leave him in the yard unattended.

Both beagles and pugs are disposed to digging. Beagles in particular need a lot of exercise and playtime. I also agree with 5ofClubs and recommend getting Belgian block to surround your fencing area.

Re: Digging Out of Yard
When Katie digs, it's because she is bored. I found that putting rocks in the holes that she started helps.

Eckstein rules. Try getting one or two wading pools and fill it up with sand. Hide his toys in the sand and make him dig for it. Remember to change the toys a few times a week.
