Dinner time Disasters

Carlie had turned into a nightmare at dinner time. She is refusing to eat. She srems, yells and throws food. rbably typical 2-year old behavor. All she wants to do it play. My dr. told me, that is she is hungry she will eat and not to force her, but I feel like she should eat something before bed. Any BTDT advise? Should I just let her play?

Your doctor is right. My son goes through his days when he won't eat a thing and then days when he eats like he's going to the electric chair.

She WILL eat if she's hungry! Don't stress yourself out!Chat Icon

I agree and Michael is the exact same way. As long as she is drinking anything and says dehyrated and she will be fine.

Re: Dinner time Disasters

I think most parents have been through this. I have so many food issues from my childhood, as does DW. I will never force either DC to eat if they don't want to. Eating when you're hungry and not eating when you're not hungry is the way all of us SHOULD be eating. I wish I could follow DS's example sometimes...

Your dr. is exactly right. Don't force her to eat or expect her to eat if she doesn't want to. When she's hungry, she'll definitely eat. Hang in there, it's so frustrating, I know!

Re: Dinner time Disasters

We had this with DD a few weeks ago and she is only one.

My brother's friend is a pediatrician (out of state or else I would use her) and she said I should let her eat when she wants to. She that toddlers sleep so much that they don't require as much food as we think they do. She said as long as the child is happy, alert and acting normally, there is no need to worry about how much they eat.

Re: Dinner time Disasters

Thank you everyone. It's so frustrating when she won't eat. Glad to hear I am not the only one going through this.

Re: Dinner time Disasters

My DD is younger but definitely is not interested in food. If she wants to play, I follow her around with a plate of food these days. I'll track her down to get her to eat. She will actually open her mouth if she is playing and knows I am trying to feed her. I don't feel like my DD ca afford to skip meals.

Re: Dinner time Disasters

DD is 2.5 and she is the worst eater ever. Ped said she will eat when she in hungry and in her own way she is trying to assert control over the situation. I worry sometimes becuase she is only 25lbs

Re: Dinner time Disasters

My DD is the worst eater too always has been. I worry too since she's only 22 lbs at 21.5 months old.

She loves her water though. eating stresses me out more than anything. I don't force her to eat, but at the same time i don't think she gets enough.

Like today, all she had today was 1/2 an apple, 5 cheerios, 2 bites of a waffle and a tsp of hummus.

I don't know what to do either.Chat Icon i don't want to give her food issues. I do give her a vitamin though.

Sorry i have no advice, but you are not aloneChat Icon
