Directions to Boston (684)
How can I get from LI to Boston WITHOUT TAKING I-95. I would love to get on the Saw Mill or take I-684, but how do I get there from LI?

if you took the merit parkway in CT you could avoid I-95
I-84 E toward BOSTON (Portions toll). 44.1 miles Map
Merge onto I-90 E / MASS PIKE / MASSACHUSETTS TURNPIKE toward N.H. - MAINE / BOSTON (Portions toll). 55 miles

I'm not sure how to get there. I am used to going from the City. Any suggestions on how I can get onto 684 from LI.

cross island parkway to whitestone bridge.. (or 684 if coming from west of the cross island)
once you get off whitestone, you will be on the Huchtison river plwy... take until I684

if you take the Whitestone Bridge to the Hutchinson River Pkwy - you can get 684 off the Hutch.

Yep, as Tom says the Whitestone to the Hutch, which ends and then you have to get on 684 and then you can pick up I-84 up by Brewster (which is where I live.)
I believe you can also access eastbound 287 from the Hutch, that might be a better alternative.

Hey Shelly we always take 84 to Boston, such a better ride than 95!! DH didn't believe me at first but now I have converted him!!
We go often to see friends... have a good trip!

Us too. We are visiting my best friend from college- I went to school up there and always took 95- but now that I leave during rush hour (and especially on a holiday weekend) I want to avoid 95 like the Plague. We usually leave from the city, but today we are leaving for LI and I don't want to get lost.
