disability policy in relation to bedrest pre-birth
i just found out that if i went on bedrest prior to birth, my disability coverage would pay 2 weeks at 60% salary, and nothing after that.
At this point im not at any particular risk for bedrest.
That being said, does anyone have a similar policy where there were able to use this for 2 weeks prior to the birth? i am only curious if it can be done like that. im sure i would have to ask my doctor since it would be up to him ultimately whether or not he would sign me out for the last two weeks - especially cause i commute to NYC and walk a significant amount. obviously i would also have to take into account that the birth could occur well after the due date as well, putting me at risk for no salary during that time.
im just curious whether this is something i should realistically think/ask about - ASSUMING i dont need to use the 2 weeks at any other point prior to that.
TIA.

Re: disability policy in relation to bedrest pre-birth
I was told that my Short-term disability would cover me 100% beginning two weeks before my due date, as long as the doctor signed off on a 'problem' such as backache, etc.
If I went past my due date I was told I would still be covered 100%.
Sounds great, but the problem for me is that FMLA starts ticking at that point, and I hate the idea of using precious FMLA time before the baby is here.
But like you, I commute to the city and don't know how I'm going to feel at that point in my pregnancy. I'm going to play it by ear and am hoping to work from home those last two weeks or take vacation days.
