Discipline for a 19 month old?

How does everyone deal with this? DS is 19 months old and is throwing everything (for fun). I want to teach him that throwing a book at me is not the same as throwing a ball.....lol, but how do you at this age? He won't stay in one place for a time out and I don't want to use the pack n play or crib b/c I don't want him to hate these places since he sleeps in them. Any suggestions?? TIA

We're at the same stage so far we tell her no and why she shouldn't do x, y, or z and then if I tell her more than twice I take the object away. Not sure if that's the perfect solution but that's what we're doing for now and at least once it's taken away we don't have to be aggravated by it anymore Chat Icon It's a process only time will tell if the message is getting through.

DS is doing the same thing if he gets mad. I actually started time outs 2 weeks ago. It is so hard for me not to laugh but he will stay their for about 20 seconds then start to walk and I keep putting him back and I keep telling him what he did that was wrong. He does throw less for that particular day. I think he understands what it is because when I ask him if he wants a time out as a warning he tells me no.

I may have to give it a try. The bad thing is he isn't just throwing when he is mad, he is throwing everything at me thinking it's like playing ball!

Also, his timeout spot is a wall in the foyer. I picked that spot because I didn't want him to associate a room we go in everyday with timeouts and then think when he was going in there he did something wrong. I guess it would be equivlant to putting them in their cribs. A friend of mine gave me that advice who is a teacher.
