Dishwasher Leaking Under Tile Floor

Has anyone had this happen to them? My floor sounds like there's a pool of water under it and when you step water shoots up through the grout. This started last night but I suspect it's been going on much longer for it to have damaged the grout. After the kids went to bed and it was quiet I heard a clicking noise and the sound of water dripping, almost like a faucet was left slightly on. I found the shut off valve under the sink that lead to the dishwasher and turned it off and the noise stopped.

So if you had this happen, what was the extent of the damage? I already know I have to get a new dishwasher and rip up all the flooring (the area that this is happening is about a third of the whole kitchen) and put a new floor down. I'm worried that it's under the cabinets and I'm going to have to gut the whole kitchen Chat Icon

Any insight would be much appreciated.

The seals are probably shot in the dishwasher. If the water is all the way out in the room then I would think it's under the cabinets also.

We had it happen but we caught it early and stopped using the dishwasher until we fixed it or got a new one.

Re: Dishwasher Leaking Under Tile Floor

It's impossible to tell until you take the tile up. It's possible that it just happened, and the underlayment under the tile is just a little wet under the dishwasher, and nowhere else. It's also possible that the plywood is soaked for several feet in either direction. You'll never be able to guess at the damage.
I had something similar years ago under a toilet in one my bathrooms. The toilet supply to the tank was leaking. Luckily, it was only about two feet in diameter, so I didn't have to pull up the sink cabinet, but I did have to replace the plywood under the toilet, and the tile (I redid the entire floor since it needed it anyway, and there was no way to match the old tile).
