Disney in August
I have been thinking of going there in august more to the end- I was just wondering if anyone has been there at that time and would like to know how the weather runs around then??? Would there be lot of rain or just melt??? lol Also has anyone stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort??
TIA

Re: Disney in August
We went there last august, the week before labor day. It wasn't that crowded. But it was 95 degrees everyday. Almost every afternoon there would be a short thunderstorm, which was appreciated after the heat. But I would not go there again in august, way too hot for me. I didn't stay at the carribean resort. I have stayed at the grand floridian and the african lodge with the animals.

Re: Disney in August
So so hot and sweaty. I was completely miserable, I went the week of Labor Day. It was pretty crowded too.
I said I'd never do it in the summer but I'll be going in July for my DH's birthday. It's gonna be horrible but I'd rather be there but here LOL
The mid afternoon burst of rain does hel things!
I have stayed at the Caribbean Beach and LOVED it!! (It was an Oct. trip) The best thing was walking across the lake every morning to get breakfast. So peaceful and quiet. Gorgeous property.

Re: Disney in August
My family and I went to Disney in august about nine years ago. OMG, it was sooo hot. Some of the days it was virtually unbearable to be out in the sun. On a positive note, it really wan't all that crowded.
I highly recommend buying one of those water/squirt/fan bottles if you do decide on going in august.

Re: Disney in August
august is one of the worst months for florida :( i moved to florida the middle of july and when august came, we wanted to die! it's soooo humid and hot. you should get a fan with mister (you can find them in stores, don't waste your money on the disney one) and just buy lots and lots of water! the crowds are pretty good at the end of august/early september because most people are going back to school.
i've stayed at carribean beach twice. it's pretty nice, walking around the lake is really nice, they just redid the pool and if you want, you can get a new pirates of the carrribean themed room. i'm not sure how much extra it is though. food court is pretty neat too.

Re: Disney in August
I was there in August once. It was miserably hot and humid. We'd go to the parks in the morning, but by lunchtime it was unbearable. We'd get stamped, go back to the hotel and hang out by the pool until it cooled off, and then go back in the evening.

Re: Disney in August
We went last year Labor Day weekend which was part pf free dining.
It was hot, but not unbearable and we didn't wait for ONE ride more than 10 minutes...it was GREAT. I am trying to swindle DH to go back again...and I would do that time of year again.
There was no line to meet characters either....
ETA: The Caribbean Beach pool was closed, so we didn't stay there...we stayed at the Coronado Springs Resort, which is another similar moderate and loved it.

Re: Disney in August
I've been there in August. Sure it's a little more hot and humid then it is here, but not unbearably so, IMO. It did shower most days we were there, but not usually for more than 20 minutes or so.

Re: Disney in August
I went the last week in August 2 times and honestly, maybe I jst got lucky, but it was not too hot. Don't get me wrong, it was hot but totally bearable.....and I hate the extreme heat!
We wold go back to the hotel in the mid-afternoon when it was the hottest and hang out by the pool, or sit down for lunch or something. The lines are short that time of year because most southern schools have started the new school year already.

Re: Disney in August
I went last August with DH while 4 mos pregnant- it was the week of Tropical storm fay so the first few days was rainy, windy, and cold. I even had to buy pants at an outlet.
Once the storm passed- it was HUMID and HOT!
I would go agaiin but spend more time in the afternoon either indoors in AC or in a pool/ waterpark.

Re: Disney in August
i've never been in August, but DH and stayed in carribbean beach and it was fine! we were there this February. the rooms weren't fancy, but the grounds were lovely! we didn't spend too much time there as we spent a lot of time at the parks and restaurants. also, it was february, so while not hot, it wasnt' hot enough to go swimming, so we didnt' get to enjoy the pools. there is one main pool that looked pretty cool---it was a Pirates of Carribbean theme and it was packed everyday. also, each section of the resort as its own pools, so there will be a smaller, no frills one closer to your room. the food court was so-so there... if you just need a quick snack or lunch it's fine, but don't expect anything fancy. if you're on the disney dining plan, we used it for snacks, but saved most (not all) of our quick service meals for inside the parks.
HAVE FUN!

Re: Disney in August
We went a few years ago in mid-late August and it was EXTREMELY hot & humid. Honestly, we were wondering why in the world we went at that time - there were still long lines too. I'm sure that come Labor Day it gets much better in terms of lines, but for mid/late August, we were very miserable standing in that sun, waiting on line for rides.

Re: Disney in August
DH and I went for our honeymoon in June two years ago and it was unbearable then! But we're going to go back in August this year anyway. Prepare for it to be extremely hot during the day! There are other fun things to do though to beat the heat, like the water parks.
We stayed at Caribbean Beach once. It was okay, but I had gotten heat stroke (we had gone one year in May) and spent the night puking my brains out so I didn't get to enjoy it as much as I should have.I can tell you the toilets there are very nice!

Re: Disney in August
If you like hot, sticky possible hurricane force winds then go, but if you prefer to not melt the SECOND you step outside I would NOT go in August

Re: Disney in August
We went in September and it was SOOOOO unbearably hot and humid, I don't ever plan on going that time of year again, it also rained for a little while every day. We also stayed at CBR when we went in January this year and I will say that it just didn't do it for me... not that it was horrible, but we stayed at the Poly the first time we went so I think we were spoiled CBR rooms were pretty boring and it was SOOO spread out. The kids did love the new pirate pool though.

Re: Disney in August
Some tips:
1. Go to the parks early, see what you want to see and head back to the resort (or wherever) after an early lunch. If you do it right, you won't miss anything but the worst of the heat.
2. Take the afternoon off to just relax, swim, shop, whatever. You will be rested, not wilted and exhausted, and enjoy the trip much better.
3. Go at the end of August if you can. Disney has announced thier "free dining" promotion for 2009, so if you're staying for any length of time, you will save yourself significant money on your food bill.
It's hot, no doubt. But do it right and it can be very enjoyable, even in August.

Re: Disney in August
we went with friends 2 years ago in august and will NEVER again go there that time of year. Even if disney gave us free tickets we wouldnt go. it was extremly HOT and muggy. Ur walking around alot so u get dehydrated pretty quickly. I passed out sitting down on a bench bc i was so hot while dh went to get me an ice. My friend passed out the next day.
we went in last year in May and it was so much more comfortable and enjoyable.
