I see a lot of Disney posts and it got me thinking...

How many times have you been to Disney w & w/out kids?

I've been once as a teenager and twice since having kids.

Re: Disney posts

I can't count how many. Probably between 50-100.

We went every year when I was a kid from 7 to 15 or so. Then I stopped going (my family continued to go). I went back again with them when I was about 22, and we still did a family trip every couple of years so I went about 5 or 6 more times with them. Fast forward a couple of years and one of my sisters and I bought DVC together.

In 2016, I went in February. Going for a quick 3 day visit in May. Going again for a week in October for Food & Wine.

We don't have kids...Disney is so much fun as an adult!

Re: Disney posts

When I was a kid maybe 5 times. That includes California and Florida. Havent been back since i was 12!!!! Im now 41. I always keep putting off taking the kids cause I really have zip, zero, zilch desire to go back. The thought of having to plan a fun family vacation a year + in advance makes my head spin. Lol

Re: Disney posts

We went once growing up when I was like 5 or 6. My mom actually saved our tickets from wayyyy back when, and gave them to me recently.

I didn't go again until my son was 2. We've been probably 20 times since (he is 17 now)!! People always say "you're going to Disney AGAIN?!", but we love it there. Mostly because it's my son's favorite place, and to see him so happy there is priceless (he has special needs). My DD is 9 and loves it there also. Each trip we try something new, and even though we've been that many times, there are STILL things we haven't seen or done. To me it's an EASY vacation, it's relatively a good bargain considering the entertainment value, and it's a guaranteed good time for us Chat Icon

I also don't plan things down to the wire. I don't plan a year in advance. We don't plan a bunch of meals. We usually book a trip a couple months to a couple weeks out. If I had to plan down to the wire for everything, we wouldn't go!

I went twice as a kid, once in college for a friend's wedding not far from Disney, and three times with kids. So six times. Looking to possibly go back next year.

Once last summer and will be going again this summer, both with kids. Also I don't think you have to do stuff 1 year in advance. I just booked our trip for this August last week and everything gets done online. I find it a really easy trip to plan and this is coming from someone whose first trip there was at the age of 35Chat Icon

Re: Disney posts

I have been to Walt Disney World over 50 times since I was 18 months old.

I go at least twice a year now, sometimes more. We stopped counting at the 50 mark.

We even went to Disney for 24 hours just so I could be there on my birthday in December and see all of the new Star Wars stuff that was opened that week.

I've been to Disneyland once but it was for 8 days so we could do EVERYTHING as many times as we wanted and we will be going back in September.

I don't just sell and plan Disney vacations. I eat sleep and breathe Disney. I can't get enough lol

Once without: Wasn't impressed
Once with: Still wasn't impressed

This is not the popular answer, but I don't see the hype and I gave it two shots. For many reasons. Short answer: its just not for me. The crowds, the lines, the heat, the minute by minute planning a year in advance... the way they overcharge for everything.

Probably will not be going back for a long long time... if ever.

My kids prefer the beach /pool over Disney anyway

Hush! you will be tarred and featherd on this board for stating that!
Your children will grow up to be serial killers if you don't take them at least once a year until they are 20!
Chat Icon
Just look at the front page of this board- 70% of the posts are about Disney.
Can we just rename this the Disney board and ask our real travel questions on Families Helping Families?

Chat Icon

But I agree, went once as a kid and can't bring myself to go now as an adult. When I think of vacation I think of white sand beaches on an ocean or the gulf of mexico or Carribean, lounging by a pool, reading a book, drinking tropical drinks, staying in a luxury resort. etc.
Not standing on lines for rides in the heat with 50,000 other people. Just not my thing.
I don't get to go away much so I like it to be relaxing

Re: Disney posts

I think my parents bought our time stars when I was maybe 8 or 9. We went twice a year until I was 15, then we started trading them and going to Mexico. DH and I went once in college. We've been taking our kids once, sometimes twice a year for the past 9 years. I went for my sisters 40th bday just the girls. Overall, probably somewhere in the 25-30 range.
But I have never been immersed in all things Disney. Even as a kid, we did 1-2 park days and the rest of the time was spent at our resort.

I didn't go as a young kid, mainly because my mom was afraid of flying so we really didn't go on vacations much, but I went 1x to Disneyland and 2x to Disneyworld.. from when I was 16-22... haven't been to Disney since.. we will look into taking the kids when they are older.

Re: Disney posts

Do people actually have drama on this board over Disney posts, and not liking Disney? I don't recall ever seeing that. Why would anyone start drama because somebody doesn't like Disney?
Anyway, we go often because my kids have food allergies and for us it works. They go above and beyond to accomodate us, and for my family, that is priceless. We hardly ever eat out, and vacations are difficult to plan around food. We like to be pampered too on vacation, and for us that means being able to walk into any restaurant and my children being able to eat food, and decent food, not a prepackaged safe sandwich, etc., in a fun setting. We don't crazy plan, except for dining because that is a big deal for us as a family to be able to enjoy. We tried going to a resort type town last year, stayed at a nice hotel, and had a major food problem. It wasn't relaxing or fun. We like what Disney offers us and we know how to plan a little bit to have a great time. You can make a Disney trip into whatever it should be for you and your family. There are a lot of options of how to plan or not plan, and how to spend your days.

You say this often and, respectfully, I have no idea why.Chat Icon

Like the other poster said, I don't see where anyone has ever gotten criticized for disliking Disney.

I love Disney but there are a few things about it I would also love to see changed and I could see how it's not for everyone. To each their own!

I think enthusiasm for something, in and of itself, is not the same as criticism of those who dislike it.

I love all types of travel talk - please don't avoid non Disney questions! Make the board what you want it to be!

I went for the first time at 2 y/o then several times after that growing up. I also went when I was 16 with a large number of family members & at 19 with my ex b/f and his sis/BIL. I'm going for the first time as a mom in August (my daughter will be 2).
