Disneyland/Universal Hollywood

I am planning to go to a conference during the end of June for 4 days/nights. DH would like to go and his family who lives on the West Coast want to visit us then. I will need to be in Anaheim for the conference. The hotels are a fortune. Am I better off staying closer to Universal?

DH really wants to do Star Wars. Is 2 days enough at Disneyland and then 2 days at Universal? Should I get park hopper? Do they have anything if you are just going at night to the parks?

I would get park hopper. You can walk between parks.
There are conference or night time tickets, but idk how the prices are.

If you are staying off-site, a 3+ day ticket would give you one early morning access (at Disneyland and only on certain days)... If that's something that you would use.
We just stayed over the summer at the courtyard theme park entrance. It was great to be able to walk back to our hotel at the end of the night and not have to get the kids in and out of strollers/car seats. If you are going to Uber anyway, there might be less expensive hotels slightly further. I was considering a new Hampton Inn not too far away, but it was too far for us to walk.

For me, one full day would have been enough at Universal. I didn't like it as much as Universal Orlando.
I also didn't like driving over to Universal.

Disneyland/Universal Hollywood

Are you checking ONLY the Disney hotel prices, or the ones around Disneyland? Everything is pretty much in walking distance of Disneyland, so you don't need to stay at an "onsite hotel". I would do at least 3 days at Disneyland/DCA and one day at Universal (if that). We love the Courtyard Theme Park hotel, but it's $$$ (we always stay free on points). We just stayed at the Fairfield Inn next door to that earlier this month. Didn't love it, but it's not very expensive.
