Displaced Family
I am currently struggling to provide shelter for my family as we are being displaced in about 2 weeks. You see, we had been renting a 3 bedroom for four years paying 950 incl. utilities. All was great, we paid our rent on time, helped out around the property and there were never any disagreements. However, we would soon find out by the ten day notice on the door, that our landlord had been foreclosed for some time and never told us anything. Although, I have been to court on 2 occasions I have exercised my last extension and even though I have been saving money it is not enough for all the expenses, especially with rent now and days. Rent going for 1300 x 3 with real estate fee and security, utilities, moving expenses and storage fees we are in over our heads. If anyone out there knows of anyone who needs extra cash by renting their basement or even if I have to settle for a 2 bedroom in the mean time just to assure my children a warm place to sleep at night I am willing to sacrifice the comfort in the mean time. My children range in ages from 2 months, 3 years old, 4 years old and a 17 year old autistic son. We also have had 2 dogs which we raised since pups whom are 6 years old now. I am willing to assure anyone willing to help us out with a binding contract, lease or even extra help around the property. Thank you so much for giving me the time and God Bless!!

Re: Displaced Family
Do you have family or friends that you can stay with until you save up some money? I would also go down to social services immediately and see if there are any emergency services that you qualify for. Contact you local churches, and even your childrens school principal... they may also be able to help.
ETA: Do you have anything you can sell? Try and put things up on craigs list to raise some extra money?

Re: Displaced Family
what area of LI are you in? There are several mobile home parks in Calverton & Riverhead that have rentals in your price range. Good luck

Re: Displaced Family
Oh no- that's terrible! I remember you posted something like this back last year- was this the same place? Would you consider leaving Long Island?

Re: Displaced Family
We have been trying to sell a few things and even if we still make it to move there is no way I can afford rent for a 3 bedroom. I have been looking for even a 2 bedroom and location is not an issue at this point. I would like to stay in the Long Island, Queens or Brooklyn area though for my sons schooling.

Re: Displaced Family
I have family but no one has space for us. I went to social services and all they can tell me is to go to a shelter. I really do not want to put my children through that. They did however refer me to a program that pays the first months rent, security and real estate fee which I have an appointment for Monday. Now I just need to find a place that will take us in. I can only afford a 2 bedroom at this point which is going for 1200 not to mention utilities and when people hear that I have 4 kids they won't even show me the apartment.

Re: Displaced Family
Any area at this point. I have to do what I have to do to put a roof over our heads. If I had a choice though, I would like to stay in LI or move to Queens or Brooklyn.

Re: Displaced Family
You should look into groups that work with Autism & see if there are any grants or programs you might qualify for due to your oldest childs needs.
here are a few rentals on MLSLI.com #2146334 #2129288 #2147674 #2153165 #2158158 #2159866 #2163083 #2167258 # 2165043
I wish you lots of luck
