districts hiring
I was wondering how districts advertise jobs and hire. I ask because I frequently check districts in my area to see if they are hiring. My home district never had any job postings. but i just received their beginning of the year news letter and they had a section welcoming 27 new teachers. Do they not make jobs public?

Re: districts hiring
I believe they have to publicly post every job. So for example, a job comes available in my district and it has to be posted... I think the post in NY times/Newsday.
What happens often though is that we have many teacher assistants that also apply and interview for the classroom positions. Most often one of our TAs gets hired for the job. They are considered "new teachers" even though they were in the district as TAs.

Re: districts hiring
most distreicts do on-line applications. some still post in the newspaper, because legally they have to post, but they only have to run it once and they get more than enough responses, so if you missed it, you missed. for example, for my job, i remember seeing the ad in the paper in february. it was in the times once -- never again, but my interview wasn't until may and i wasn't hired until june.
also many districts hirwe within leave replacements, subs, ta's, etc.
you really have to pound the pavement and work your connections for a teaching job these days.

Re: districts hiring
My district will post on their website but its usually only a few.
Most in my district are done internally only.

Re: districts hiring
My district is strictly OLAS and NYTimes.
High supply areas (elem ed) are usually filled internally, but high demand areas are external (I was external)
