DIVA DEBRA'S ANTICS DON'T GO OVER WELL DOWN UNDER

Debra Messing's diva-like attitude is driving people crazy on the set of her new mini-series in Australia.

The "Will & Grace" star, who is currently filming "The Starter Wife" in subtropical Queensland, is afraid to swim in the ocean because she doesn't want to die like Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin!

"Despite the exotic location, she's refusing to go anywhere near the water because she's convinced that a stingray will kill her, like it did Steve Irwin," an insider on the set told The ENQUIRER.

"She was invited to go snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef and she freaked out, saying, 'I'm not going anywhere near the water! No thanks!'"

Having a fear of the water is one thing, but locals say the 38-year-old actress is "snippy and sarcastic, with a diva personality."

"I told them I am not going in the ocean," Debra said in an interview. "I told them I need a stunt double."

Sources say Messing - who's been dubbed Debra the Diva by those working on the movie - has also been complaining about the tropical heat.

"It seems like if it's not one thing with her it's another," added the source. "Complaining about the hot weather is just plain silly. "If Debra would just get over her childish fear about the ocean and go into the water, she'd cool down!"

Hmmm...having a fear of going in the water - totally acceptable IMHO.

Demanding certain foods in excess and having people "not look" at her - that's diva.

I agree. I don't think she's acting diva-like because she won't go in the water.

eta. Today's Yahoo News featured a Great White Shark attack in Sydney. I'm not sure I'd be so keen to go in the water either.

i went in the water in sydney this past weekend. where the shark attack happened it wasnt in sydney, but 250 miles south. australia gets about 15 shark attacks a year, so that makes it the highest in the world. sydney is pretty afr off from queensland.

if i were messing i would be more afraid of the box jellyfish than a stingray. now those can kill you and are more common. i dont think she is acting like a diva, australia has some pretty scary things in the water and on land- like spiders. i wont go digging in a garden, b/c of the fear of a red back spider.
