Diverticulitis or colitis. Yay.
I ended up in the ER a few nights ago with crazy pains in my lower left side of my abdomen & cramps in my back- (among other disgusting symptoms ) They did a CT ab/pelv & basically I have either diverticulitis or colitis.
Now I'm home & I'm still on a clear liquid diet for a week. I have to go in a week for a cononoscopy. I still have the pains in my side. Has anyone else had any experience with this? I hate it! And I'm friggin starving. My DH was so cute at the hospital...He didn't know I couldn't eat & bought me a huge rainbow cookie. Anyone have any advice for me?

I feel your pain! So sorry you are going through this, I know it sux. I have Crohn's disease, which is similar to colitis & my mom has diverticulitis so I have experience with all of it. Not eating is the worst! Hopefully your testing will show them exactly what is going on and they can get you started on a regimine to have you feeling better. Hang in there!

Re: Diverticulitis or colitis. Yay.
DH was in the hospital last November b/c he had stomach pains and was bleeding rectally Turned out he developed a bacterial infection from something he ate which caused a bout of colitis. Fortunately they did a colonoscopy and everything cleared up and said he shouldnt have any further problems. He was also on a liquid diet for several days in the hospital which was horrible b/c he is 6'4" and about 250 lbs....he was no happy He had to eat a bland diet for a few weeks after that until his stomach went back to normal.

Thanks. I hate this. I'm not looking forward to the colonoscopy. I still haven't scheduled it yet.

So sorry you are suffering. Why do they have you on clears for a week? I would just schedule the colonoscopy while you are on the clear diet since you will have to do that the day before anyway.
Good luck.

Re: Diverticulitis or colitis. Yay.
hope you feel better. i just had to have a colonoscopy about 2 months ago. DO IT!!!! It was not bad at all. I was PETRIFIED!! I was totally out. No pain, no humiliation. I am currently on a gluten free diet. So the sooner you do it, they will see what is going on. After the colonoscopy I had a endoscopy and that too was so easy. The worst part you will have is the night before, when you have to empty your bowels. But, hey you might be running to the bathroom allot anyway. good luck

Not 100% clear liquids. He said to just do the bland stuff. Broth, saltines, toast, rice, bananas, juice.....Stuff like that. But I can incorporate smaller solid foods a little at a time. I'm going crazy because I have a mild addiction to peanut butter & I can't have that.

Poor you. It sounds a bit like bowel rest.
Really, get the colonoscopy done now while you're not eating much. It will be easier than having to starve yourself again.
I hope you feel better soon!
