DJ and Cater NEEDED!
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a dj and cater for Ava's christening. We got a price from a dj for $425. I don't know if that is good or not, does anyone know??
Also, cater, we got $10 a person, does anyone know of anyone that is less then that, if that is possible. I did have someone who use to charge us $8 a person, but he is no longer in business (I wonder why)

My sister paid $400 last year for a DJ for a communion party, so the DJ price seems reasonable to me.

I have seen DJ's listed on craigslist for between $150 - $300 for 4 hours.

You may find a diamond in the rough with a craigslist DJ. But there really isn't any way to know who is good... and who is "amateaurish".
I advertised on craigslist a few times... but I would never do a party of this nature for less than $300 buks. Its not just worth my time.
I normally would charge $400 for this type of event.

Well thats why its important to ask for references.. some people are just starting out and need the experiance for their resume so they are willing to work for less..
also I noticed alot of them list places where the DJ regularly so you could go check them out and see how they are in person.

If you can check them out beforehand in person... that would be good.
I wouldn't even trust references... because who knows if the reference is even accurate or not (like a friend).

Craigslist in general can be a hit or miss type thing.
I found a carpenter on craigslist and he was EXCELLENT!
I found a videographer on craigslist for my wedding and he was very good.
I found a painter on craigslist and he was very average.
I found a DJ on craigslist that I was looking to hire as an assisstant for my expanding DJ business and he was not bad... decent.
