DjPiLL's Depeche Mode @ PNC Arts Center Review

I see most people here went to the Jones Beach show. I was supposed to go to Jones Beach originally. But I am starting a new DJ job (hopefully) at a brand new bar thats opening up. They haven't opened yet... and they have kept me in limbo. I ended up buying tickets to PNC just in case and I decided to go to PNC in the end.

But anyways... I am glad I took the 70 mile drive to PNC. This show was AWESOME. The best thing about this show was the setlist.

They played 19 songs total , which included one extra song after the encore compared to Jones Beach (an extra REALLY GOOD song). Chat Icon

They modified the setlist slightly compared to the MSG show late last year. They removed a couple of crappier songs from the new album and threw in some awesome oldies! Chat Icon There wasn't a single song played that IMO "wasn't good".

Dave developed laryngitis earlier last week and had to end the KC show early... and cancel the Chicago show. But he sounded GREAT at PNC!

The biggest surprise to this show was the encore. They started it off by Gore singing "Leave In Silence". I have never heard this song live... and from what I hear he started singing this song a couple of weeks ago at certain gigs. These performances marked the first time "Leave In Silence" was performed at any US gig. He sang it without the drums... with just the piano in the backgroud. AWESOME!

After that... he said something which I couldn't make it. But I later found out he said "This is the first song we ever recorded". Then I hear a very fast beat and wasn't sure what it was. Then he starts singing "A white house, a white room, the program of today". HOLY ****... its PHOTOGRAPHIC! I couldn't believe it. This is a song the diehards have been asking them to sing for YEARS. With the exception of Just Can't Get Enough... the band really does not like playing any songs before Black Celebration. But they made the exception tonight!

After this came Just Can't Get Enough. I was expecing this obviously... but I heard this was left out at Jones Beach! Man I feel bad because the crowd was PUMPIN when those beats hit for this song.

Ended the concert with Never Let Me Down again. A good choice, considering Goodnight Lovers at MSG just didn't cut it.

On another note... during the concert they brought Stripped back. Great song. Martin's solos was "Home", and an AWESOME song "It Doesn't Matter Two".

This concert rocked. After the concert I pre-prdered the $35 live CD of the show. It was that good.

I am almost considering driving down to Atlantic City this weekend to see them one more time.

Somehow... I have a strange feeling this is going to be their last album/tour. They wouldn't play Photographic (their first ever song) unless this was the end. But hopefully I am wrong.

With everything that went wrong at the KC show... the cancelled Chicago show... and them doing stuff pre-black celebration which they said they would NEVER do (like Leave In Silence / Photographic)... I wouldn't be surprised if they call it quits after this tour.

I hope not.

I do agree about Shake the Disease, a better song. But I have heard them do that song before in the past. Leave In Silence I would have never guessed... and I am glad I was there to experience that. I didn't even recognize the song till the chorus... i was that shocked.
