If you have an account at TD they do the Visa ones with no fees.

Because of their activation fees I refuse to get either of those. There are a ton of places you can get a GC from without having to pay an activation fee.

just store ones though, right?
I hate limiting people to a particular store but the fees can add up.

I just bought one of those. They still have the activation fee, but they no longer have the fee for the user where it deducts money for each month they don't use it.

I hate hate hate the activation fees!
It also stinks, that, you are pretty much limited to specific stores. I do usually go this route. I try and listen for "hints" as to where the person goes and shops the most.

Re: Do all gift cards have an activation fee?
The Amex and Visa are accepted everywhere that AmEx and Visa cards are accepted - so pretty much any store or restaurant (or online) you can use them in. I hate those fees too and that they are less flexible to spend than store cards. BUT you can use them in more places.
Besides no extra fees, Am Ex gc's never expire.
