Do Cash Only businesses bother you?

Does it bother you when businesses are "Cash Only"? Is there even a reason for this aside from avoiding taxes?
It personally drives me nuts becuase I rarely carry more than a few dollars and I've been caught by surprise more than once. I even went to a pricy salon and was sent to hunt down an ATM when I didn't have over $200 cash to pay them. How do you feel about this?

I rarely, if ever, frequent businesses that don't take CC. I rarely carry cash.

I really hate it when a business doesn't take CC--I rarely carry cash.
I also hate it when you are unable to put cash tip on a bill---I have been sent out the door looking for an atm to give a tip for a few dollars!

I don't care either way.
I go to a Thai place that's cash-only...been going there for years, so I know that's their deal.
I look up everything on Yelp before I go, partly to see if I need to stop for cash beforehand.

I think its annoying because I do alot of entertaining for work and its not like we have a petty cash fund. So I have to lay out the $ from my pocket and then submit itemized expenses for it! Drives me nuts.

As long as I know in advance that a biz is cash only, it doesn't bother me.
My hair salon is cash or check, no CC.
I know that because I was told that when I made my first appointment.
Restaurants should definitely tell you when you make a reservation that they are cash only.

There is a restaurant by me that has a small sign behind the bar that says cash only. So glad we saw it before we had dinner there. I have not been back to that place since.

The only time that it doesnt bother is if. I know way in advance and is somewhere that I need to make an appointment/reservation not a place that I just happen to be in the area and decide to stop and buy something but I need cash.

it bothers me, because I never ever carry cash; but I still go there.
I have been to a restaurant (on LI) and only after we ate did we find out that they were cash/check only. FH had to run across the street to the grocery store to get cash - it was horrible, but I can laugh about it now!
I live in MA now, a lot of the small mom & pop shops are cash only, especially they ice cream shops - CASH ONLY! They are the only ice cream stores around here (we dont have baskin robbins/ben & jerrys) so we just go to the ATM first, because I cannot live without ice cream!

I don't have a problem with it as long as you're told before hand. As to why some businesses may only accept cash: My Dh owns his own business in the aftermarket automotive parts industry. He has been scammed by many people using stolen cards or they simply do a charge back and vanish. Its aggravating and takes time and money to resolve. He still accepts credit cards but he knows a bunch of other businesses in his industry that don't for this reason.

It's annoying because we put everything on our cards and then pay the balance each month so we do not always have cash (well my husband always does, I don't!).
I'll still go to place. Aldi is like this, but you can use your debit card so that's easy enough.

Yeah, it's annoying, but I get it. CC charge a merchant fee and that comes off their bottom line. If you're successful enough that you don't need to accept them, then why give up that percentage on your sales?

YES! Especially A&S bagels in Franklin Square, bc I always forget until I've already waited 10 mins on that long line and then after I order I have to walk 3 blocks to the nearest ATM, which isn't my bank so then I end up paying a fee! Then I have to walk back and explain to everyone there I already ordered, and blah blah
LOL it's definitely a hassle!

I too am okay with it as long as I know in advance.
Usually DH carries cash.
I always use debit for everything.
Certain places I am glad though because I would overspend if I used my debit.
Farmer's market comes to mind.
There's not a lot of places though that we go to that are cash only that we frequent.
On occasion we go to All American but that's the only one I can really think of. And that's also probably a good thing for my waistline.

I wonder if this is bigger in some areas than others or if it is again becoming more prevalent. I don't live in NY anymore and I rarely see any businesses here in MA that don't take CC but it WOULD bother me.

My familys deli is cash only, we do have an atm in the store. It costs money to accept cc
