Do compliments make you uncomfortable?
I don't want this to come off as a bragging post but I have I really hard time with compliments. I get so uncomfortable.
I have 3 kids and I managed to loose all my baby weight (although my body is not the same) people give me compliments all the time..sometimes they stay stuff like "I hate you, you make it look too easy" I never know how to respond.
Yesterday I ran a 5k with my triple stroller which to me isn't a big deal but people kept stopping me..I was soo uncomfortable!
Am I the only one that gets so unconfortable? Do you have a "go to" phrase because I always manage to say something stupid!

Re: Do compliments make you uncomfortable?
I used to but not anymore. I just give a big smile and say "thank you, that's nice of you to say" and from there I'll know if it will turn into a larger conversation about weight loss or not.
Someone once told me that women need to learn how to accept complements because so many of us respond with putting ourselves down in some way when complimented. You worked hard, why shouldn't you be able to enjoy kind words?

Re: Do compliments make you uncomfortable?
I think complements like "you make it look so easy" bother me because it's NOT easy to maintain my weight. I have to work hard at making the time to stay active and watch what I eat. If didn't, I wouldn't look the way I do.
That's why I graciously accept any complements, because I do work hard at it. It sounds like you to, so enjoy the complements!

I agree. I hate when people say " you're so lucky. You lost the baby weight." It wasn't luck! But I just say "Thanks"

This! I used to always put myself down, but now I just say thank you.
The other day I was walking out of the bank and an older woman was walking in. I held the door for her and she said- you have such a nice shape. I was about to say thank you- and she followed it up with- I hate you! But it was in a funny/complimentary tone...so I continued on with my Thank you, a laugh- and kept walking.

Re: Do compliments make you uncomfortable?
It doesn't make uncomfortable but I do find myself sometimes making a self-depreciating joke or minimizing it, like if someone says "you look so thin" I will say "oh no its the pants", not sure why, I am uncomfortable more like I dont want to seem full of myself by agreeing

I used to say that I wouldn't take credit for losing so much weight because who put it on in the first place? I did. But I'll take credit for losing from here since I'm in the "normal" range.
I don't say that anymore because I know I take responsibility for the bad and the good. Countering with comments like that can make people regret saying anything nice in the first place. I wouldn't want someone who needs the affirmation to not get it because the person who would normally say it is expecting a bad response.

I definitely don't mind a compliment!!! Especially when I work really hard to keep myself in shape. It's nice that people notice sometimes. I just hate when people go on about how "skinny" I look. Then it's not a compliment. Its insulting. Being fit and being skinny are two different things entirely. I hate how if I try to take care of myself and keep myself in shape its equated with me being "too skinny".
