Do I need a car seat in London (taxi)?

DS is 22m old. Does London have the same taxi policy as NYC? Do I need to bring his car seat with us or just leave it at home?

The UK law is that you do not need a car seat in a bus or train. In taxis or private hire vehicles ("minicabs"), a child under 3 years old does not need a child seat or any other form of restraint. Over 3 years old, if the taxi or minicab does not have a child seat or booster seat, the child MUST use the adult seat belt.

None of the special rules for taxis apply to self-drive hire cars. Then you must have a child seat or booster seat. Hire companies can often find one if necessary (for an extra charge, of course!).

L & J, it wasn't easy to get E's passport!! I thought we weren't going to be able to go. We wound up having to use an expeditor service and it's costing almost $500 to get his passport in time!

You just bring your stroller right into the black taxi, the driver will help you. Don't bring a car seat. Oh, and the tube is very pushchair friendly imo
