Re: Do kittens/cats calm down after they get fixed?
When I met my cats (they were with a rescuer), they were young (2-3 months), not fixed and she said they had the "kitten crazies".
When I got them, they were about 4-5 months, fixed and had the kitten crazies.
They are now almost 3 and STILL have the "kitten crazies".
From what I understand, spaying/neutering helps curb the bad behavior like spraying, agression, etc. But the crazies remain, at least in my cats.

Fixing does curb some of the behavior. As they grow, the kitten craziness will subside. It is best to get them fixed. It helps stop the pet overpopulaton, and healthwise it is better for them. They can develop testicular cancer.
Here are some links that offer low cost fixing and vaccines:

My vet said that most pets naturally calm down a little around the same time they get fixed, so it appreas as if the fixing is what calms them down, but really, it's just natural. It all depends on the animal though....my 15 year old cat still goes a little crazy sometimes!

what is your kitty doing? maybe i can help?
i have 2 male 4 year old cats. I would say Lincoln calmed down at 1 year. The other one, TJ, is still nutty sometimes, but it's cute. He likes to chase things and hop around. He even sleeps on top of a 6 foot cabinet, while Lincoln is more like Garfield

This is interesting because DH and I have a 4 month old kitten and he has the crazies too...LOL I didn't know getting them fixed calms them down a little.
Granted he goes nuts when you play with him and it's cute, but sometimes he just gets into these spells where he acts like a physco, he runs back and forth between the living room and kitchen like a nut! He'll run, jump on the couch, sit for 10 seconds and then take off again...and he jets! Sometimes it's funny but sometimes i'm like "calm the F*** down"...We have to get him fixed soon, so hopefully he'll calm down a little. He bites DH when he plays with him, but he doesn't do it to intentionally hurt him, he just wants to play.
Yesterday the nut ball got himself wet in the toilet bowl...LOL I always forget to close the top so he jumped on the edge and apparently he attempted to drink the water and fell in...DH found him in there...LOL LOL LOL He should have taken a picture...

God bless your 15 year old cat. Sounds like he/she still has a lot of energy left even at that age. DH's old cat Lucy died in August. She was 18 years old but DH told me that she hasn't been that energetic since 5 years before that.
