Do Mommies get a day off?
So DH finds it hard to understand why I want my day off to be about me. Am I being selfish, was I supposed to give up me time just because I have children?
Am I a bad person for wanting to sit on the couch and watch a movie BY MYSELF. I don't want to run errands, I don't want to clean, I don't want to think about if Roman's diaper needs changing or how I am going to entertain him when he gets cranky, I want to sit my lazy fat pregnant arse on the couch and be BY MYSELF!
hormonal vent over
Do you have a day off where you do nothing for anyone else but you?

Re: Do Mommies get a day off?
I did once! It was so nice
Every mom needs it.
If you are a SAHM, you definitely need a break. The two hours while they nap are not enough to catch up on "me time"
If you work (like I do), the morning belongs to the baby, the 9-5 belongs to my job and the 5-8 belongs to the baby. The 8-10 I am barely awake. So you don't get any quality "me" time.
I love my daughter and treasure my time with her, but to sit and read a book and not put it down whe she cries is such a luxury. Not to mention going to get your nails done and not worry about hurrying home because DH is alone with the baby. Oh- and working otu at the gym until you are done, and not worrying that the baby is awake. Priceless...

Re: Do Mommies get a day off?
i have never had a COMPLETE "day off", I just do dinner with girlfriends, or go for a quick mani-pedi, so no I have NEVER had a day off, not for almost 8 years But then again, i would never want a full day off from my kids, a "breather", absolutely, but I could not imagine not incorporating them into my day. I think if your hubby gives you the entire day off you are very lucky, because I don't hear of that often. Hang int here it gets easier.

okay well not a whole day. DH wouldn't ever take care of Roman for a full day. I still have to get him ready in the morning, take him to daycare and pick him up so let's just say 6 hours to myself on Mondays. I know I don't really have any right to complain, I am very fortunate.
But a movie, just one stinkin movie I wanted to watch

Re: Do Mommies get a day off?
I do it every once in a while. I feel like I have no time to myself - in the AM I'm getting Alex ready and rushing to work, all day I'm giving myself to work, and when I get home, I tend to Alex until 8pm. After that, I clean the house, do the laundry, eat dinner, etc. Every once in a while I start to feel overwhelmed and exhausted and take a "personal" day, and never once has DH questioned it... he completely understands, and does it every once in a while for himself as well.
In fact, on Friday, we both played hookey from work and got a late brunch and went to the movies
I can't wait for my new job - Flex-time - meaning, a day off every two weeks. I think once a month I'll have a Mommy and Alex day and take her somehwere, and the other day, is a MOMMY day

My DH doesn't get it either. If he hears I'm off, he tells me a list of things he wants done. Um no....I'm out taking picture that day Buddy!

Re: Do Mommies get a day off?
I plan on making a day for myself VERY soon. I have a gc for a facial out in East Northport and I'm going to do that and then some other things on a day where my dh is home from work.

Re: Do Mommies get a day off?
Wednesdays is usually my days to have to myself, my MIL comes over and watches Julia for me so I can go out and do what I need to do, she doesn't care when I get back, although I'm never gone for to long, I would miss my baby too much!
I do have a day of beauty G/C that I have to use soon, can't wait for that!!

Re: Do Mommies get a day off?
Nope never but it's more self inflicted. I will go out for a manicure or a haircut or shopping but I never take a whole day off. We will have lazy days as a family where we don't do cooking, cleaning or errands and we'll eat out but obviously one of us is taking care of the baby. We also take turns sleeping in on the weekend. DH sleeps in Saturdays and I sleep in Sundays.

Re: Do Mommies get a day off?
What exactly is a day off?
Every time I attempt a day off for myself DD get's sick and can't go to daycare so I can't remember the last time I had a real day off.
I can't even have a sick day off either!!!!! Perfect example....last week I was sick..I finally made an appt. with my Dr. on Thursday at 3:00. So I told my boss I was going to take a half day off.
Not 30 seconds after those words left my lips, daycare calls and tells me that DD just had not one but two explosive poops and I have to pick her up. ARRGGGGGG
At least DH came home early so I could go to dr. appt.

Re: Do Mommies get a day off?
My DH is home on Tuesday's during the week, so I can have that day to do my things and he glady stays with the kids. However, I decided that since he is home watching them anyway, I go to work that day... I get to go out to lunch with coworkers, be by myself and I make some money. I know it sounds counter-me time, but it works.....

Re: Do Mommies get a day off?
I've had a day to myself here and there. I've taken a "mental health" day from work.... DH will be out and Nate would go to day care. A few times, I just stayed home by myself and just vegged out. Other times, I'll meet a friend for lunch and the go shopping.

Re: Do Mommies get a day off?
I am a SAHM so I'm always with DS. Every Saturday morming though I get up go to Weight Watchers and then do whatever I want...shopping, mani/pedi. Sometimes I'm gone all day b/c I'll drive by a store and decide to just jump out and look around b/c I can! I do this every Saturday unless we have something to do or we do a family day! I think we all need to spend time by ourselves!
