Do poodles...

always have separation anxiety?

are they always good with toddlers?

I had a poodle growing up...my mom was a SAHM so there was no separation issue....and I was 7 when we got her so I have no idea how she was with babies. My sister was born when I was 8 but I don't remember the dog being snappy at her...

I really would love to get one again Chat Icon

Re: Do poodles...

Unfortunately I know an even amount of poodles that are good and horrible with kids.
As far as I know none of them have separation issue.

Re: Do poodles...

what about a poodle mix?

My parents have a schnoodle and he loves people and has been around young and old!!!!

He also is super smart and they have borded him and had him in doggie daycare and he loved it.

I have a toy poodle who hates kids and he does have separation anxiety. If you already have kids though, i would think if you got a puppy and raised it with the kids it would be ok. i would not trade my Poodle for anything. We have 2 babies coming in the winter and everyone asks, what if he is not good with them. I'll just teach my kids to stay away from him. There is no other option. He is so loyal. I had a cockapoo growing up and she was great! it really depends on the dog and how you teach them. From the moment i got my poodle, i didn't him down so he is all about me.

Re: Do poodles...

I would not get a poodle if I was choosing while I currently had a small child.

Re: Do poodles...

Toy poodles have a much diff. temperment than standards. I have a goldendoodle - her mom was a standard poodle and her dad was half poodle/half golden. Maggie is great with kids and has no separation issues... I would be careful with where you buy mixes from and avoid a mix that uses a toy or mini poodle. We researched Maggie's breeders and their top concern is temperment.

Re: Do poodles...

I think it also dependes on what you get the dog used to as a puppy.

we got an 11 wk mini poodle and brought her around kids in our family immediately....she LOVES people (only hated the mobile groomer). She is 6 months old now and is very good witih other dogs and people of all ages.

I Have a maltipoo, he's really good with kids. He goes through so much with my nephews and never snapped at them.
as for separation anxiety, he tends to go under the bed or table when we're leaving the house and looks really sad. That's pretty much it, no behaviors while we're gone or when we come home. He's so cute.

My good friends have a Schnoodle and he's the best dog. So smart and so good with their daughter. Got some personality. Doesn't shed and has real hair so no allergies

Re: Do poodles...

Poodles are said to be excellent with children. You can look it us anywhere. They are also easy to train & one of the most intelligent dogs. Our Poodle is a toy Poodle & he's a little joy. Loves everybody. We both work full-time & he stays alone. Never a problem.

I cannot be sure but I believe our dog is not 100% Poodle. He looks a little Maltese-ish
