Do they let you have any say in the C/S date? UPDATE: got a call from Dr office.. DATE IS SET

Just curious

I see the doc Thurs and I'm 80% sure she hasn't flipped so they want to schedule my c/s

since im at a slight risk for pre-term labor they don't want to risk it too far.. but still YES I KNOW, the option is she can turn..

But my quesiton is.. do we have a say in the date???

I know they prefer the 39th week.. but can we pick the day?

So i came home and had a voicemail
I'm scheduled for 9/2/08
Im the second case so I need to be in by 7am

I had my phone on speaker cause we always listen to our voicemails like that.. and my hubby and I just stared at eachother.. so surreal!

When we talked about a section for previa, I asked if I could choose a day that my particular doc is at the hospital and he said yes, so I imagine you have some say at least.

As long as it is after the 39th week, my doctor said she would have let me pick the date that week if she was available. I think some hospitals restrict scheduled c-sections on weekends. I don't know why but that's what my dr. told me.

It would depend on how many other c-sections are already scheduled for your Dr & for that ward, but my Dr did have some flexibility for my with DC #1

They implied they won't do weekends and they won't do ...

Which i find ironic!!!

My brother was born on labor day in 1971 it would have been so cool to have my daughter on that date..

So here's another question.

Hubby and I were talking about this (better to be prepared) and we both like 8/28.. but I'll only be 38w4d.. do you think that's too soon?

ETA: all the dates we like have problems
8/28/08 - too early?
9/1/08 - labor day
9/6/08 - brothers and his grandmother's bday (Weekend)
9/8/08 - EDD and week 40
9/11/08 - post due date

The reason why the Drs will not recommend before 39 weeks is there is a chance the baby's lungs are not yet mature. If you want to go that early they will most likely ask you to do an amnio to determine that the lungs are mature.

I "scheduled" mine but there are lot of other parameters.

Dr availability
Hospital rules

I was with Winthrop. So no weekends. No morning schedules. They have a limit of scheduled c-section per day so my dr had to check with them if they are availability for the day I wanted.

Nothing before 39 weeks at Winthrop.

I was able to get the day I wanted within the guidelines.

I didnt know that.. I didnt realize 3days were so important..(stupid I know just wasn't thinking)

My doc prefers to schedule c-sections on the days he is on call after a woman has hit the 39 week mark unless there is another reason to do it earlier. He WILL do them on other days if there is no OR time. He will not SCHEDULE any on Saturdays.

Ask your dr. My dr switched my c/s date so that DS and DH had their own birthdays. Originally she scheduled it for Friday the 21st. I was on the phone with her and said oh how nice they will both share a bday. She said, oh we dont want that, everyone deserves their own day. Let me call you back. 30 minutes later I was going in on Thursday the 20th!

My doc only schedules C/S on Fridays. I am due 9/10. The Friday before that is 9/5 and he said that was "too close" to my due date. So, he picked 8/29 which will be 38 weeks, 4 days.

as for choice, IMO, I'd try to keep it close to the 39 week mark... definitely not past your due date... but I bet your Dr. would discourage that too...

(besides, it would be a drag have a B'day on 9/11 )

I am scheduled for 38 weeks, 1 day. I was originally scheduled for 39 weeks, 1 day, but was having a hard time finding someone to watch my older daughter, so they changed it for me.

They at first offerred me Sept 11th, but I said no, and got Sept 12th.

They could have changed the rules but it was that way last year. I wanted a morning too. I had the 1st one at 1:30pm but got bumped by 2 emergency c-sections.
