do they only prescribe drugs like Zofran if you are...........
really not keeping down any food? I'm nauseous around the clock and I have vomited but mostly I dry heave, mostly uncontrollably and not at the most opportune moments. I had Zofran and Reglan after a surgery once and they were lifesavers!!!!

In my case I had lost 13lbs in the first 13 weeks and that is when I started taking the Zofran.

talk to the Dr.
For me the nausea was soooo bad and severe it was way worse then the actual throwing up.
Usually they want to see a weight loss or dehydration or something to indicate its needed.
I would ask though, dont suffer if you dont need to.

I'm not eating a ton but I must be gaining wt. as I have no energy to burn any calories by exercise and I do keep food down, even if my meals are not huge. I keep saying that my leg muscles are going to turn to mush because I barely even walk anywhere now that I have become so tired.

I should add, I was dehydrated and was not keeping ANYTHING down. I wasn't eating anything to maintain my weight.
I didn't really want to go on Zofran, but considering since I am going to be 35 weeks on Thursday and still taking it, it was a lifesaver.

my experience as well. the nausea is SO much worse than the actual vomiting.
i've lost 10 pounds so far (i'm 11 weeks) but have gained 1 back over the last couple weeks, as i've had some better days. i've been dehydrated to the point of needing IV fluids in the ER once in this whole time period.
when i called my OB they first recommended B6 supplements and unisom (and antihistamine that's been around for a long time and that helps nausea and sleeplessness). they told me that they wouldn't prescribe meds unless i was doing much more poorly. eventually i fit their criteria for "doing poorly" and i got the prescription, although i've only used one dose. i've decided to try and not use meds while i can, but i may have to if this continues.

I would talk to your doc, maybe you can take an alternative prenatal or something=I found my prenatal was making my nausea severe even though i never threw up with this pg. I started taking flinstones instead and i felt better and was able to function within days of stopping the prenatal.
My doc will not even consider anti nausea meds until I have been throwing up for at least 3 straight days and nights of not being able to keep a thing down-like the other ladies mentioned-showing signs of dehydration.

Are you taking prenatals? I had to stop and now take children's vitamins. They said it was fine for now. Also, my doc told me not to really take the Zofran unless I was throwing up several times a day. Now I wretch more than I throw up so she made me afraid to take it. Good luck.
