Do you believe in our country's system of checks and balances
Do you truly believe that it exists??
I will explain the reason I ask this after I hear some peoples views!

I think for the msot part it works, but that the Bush administration is trying to wrest control fro the other branches

I have to agree with this post. This administration is trying to change policies by circumventing the other branches of goverment.

I think that for the most part the checks and balances system works. Of course the administration will try and shift powers in their favor. It happens all the time.
Even FDR did it with his court packing plan.

I believe it works when you want it to work. Like all practices set up by our government it's going to be trial and error. We forget that we are still a young country that has only been in existence for 230 years. Who even knows if democracy will work out. Checks and balances makes sure not one sector of our government doesn't have too much power. Do I think Pres. Bush has too much power? Honestly, no. Am I worried about him gaining too much power, no.
