DH and i are 0% irish. Are we allowed to celebrate St. Patricks day? Do Irish people celebrate St. Joseph's day? I never really knew what is appropriateChat Icon

My DH is 0.0% Irish and considers St. Patrick's Day his favorite holiday of the year. Chat Icon My ILs also put up decorations and make soda bread. I think besides being an "Irish" thing, it's also a festive day lots of peple like to celebrate, so of course you're allowed! St. Patrick IS a saint though, so I suppose you can view it as a religious thing too...

Not Irish but get festive for it.
I marched in the NYC Parade for 4 years with my high school marching band.

100% Irish and married to a Dubliner so I celebrate it, but I have to tell you my FAVVVVVVVVVORITE part of the day is always going into NYC and giving the "thumbs up" to anyone who's obviously NOT Irish but wears a little "green" to celebrate with us. Re: Do you celebrate St Patricks day if you are not Irish?

We are not Irish. For the last few years, we have gone with friends, mostly Jewish with a couple of Irish thrown in, to the RVC St. Patty's Day parade and then to the bars. That's always the following weekend. I've never done anything on St. Patty's Day. Then again, I'm not a big drinker. This year, we have a baby-naming in the morning, and I'm PG, so we will not be going to RVC at all. Not doing anything on the 17th either....maybe I'll get some corned beef and stuffed cabbage at the kosher deli - celebrating with a Jewish twist!
