Do you check for fire exits?

My friend always looks for fire exits before she can settle down somewhere. All & all not a bad idea, but I never thought about it until she mentioned that she does it.

In talking to DH about it, he told me he does it too.

I always locate the exits when I'm in a new place.

yep - in our building at work, i know where all the exits are, and have formed a plan with the people in my immediate area to stay together if something happens

at home, we are one flight up and right next to the stairwell, so we're set there too

ETA: i do this in hotels as well

I'm crazy about stuff like that in any building I work in. Places like stores/malls, I always have to know where an outside door is.

For me, it's the world we are living in. Bad things happen, it's good to know your surroundings

I absolutely do! Ever since that fire in Rhode Island at that night club. I know that there's a "syndrome" where people always look to exit the way they came in a room or building, so that's always in the back of my mind. I definitely cannot settle down when I go somewhere unless I see where I can get out.
I do it in my classroom, too. If there's anyone or anything blocking an exit from my room, I cannot continue to teach until it's clear. If asked to quote me, the kids would probably say my most commonly used phrase is, "That's a fire hazard!"

He is Mr. Worst-Case-Scenario. But he's also McGyver so he's always prepared!

I always run a mental check of the exits etc.

Not really, but I always do clear pathways to exits. There is never anything in FRONT of a door at my house

I do actually, always have. I have a freaky feeling about fire, but mostly being trapped.

I especially take notice if I am in someone's apt - basement or to a lesser extent an upstairs that has only one means of egress.

I always do, but only since the Station Night Club Fire...too many people perished & were injured and that news coverage haunts me every time I enter a place...

Yes, I do. My mom told me that she did it years ago and now I do it too.

yup, i do. and i get nervous if im somewhere and i know it would be able to get out in case of an emergency. (like the concert last night at shea. i had a mini freak out session when we FINALLY go to our seats.)

Yes, I do! When everyone else is in a panic trying to find an exit, I already have a plan.

I do not but, DH does - even before he was in the FDNY his dad taught him to always look.

My dad and husband are fire fighters so yes, I've been trained. LOL.

We also agree to things like last night at BJ, my husband said "if we get split up, we meet back at X spot."

Yes.

My brother's BF was killed in a raging fire during the third week of his senior year at St. Michael's College in Vermont. It was typical falling apart off campus housing. Another young man was killed... no fire escape on their floor

I do especially at Hotels .... and I count the seats on the planes to the exit row too.
