Do you cook every night?

Reading the weekly menu threads has me amazed at how many people cook at home every night. Even on weekends?

We go out to dinner every Saturday- it's something I actually look forward to all week as our "night out". We take DD with us, so it's not a fancy date night or anything, but we enjoy getting out of the house.

And then we do take out one night a week too- usually on Friday or mid week if we are too busy or have nothing to cook. (pizza, Chinese, tacos, Italian food or heros, sushi)

I guess we just get bored of cooking and eating at home. I feel like I need a mental break from the home cooked meals and like to go out or get take out for some variety and also the social aspect of eating out. I'm also a bit of a foodie so I like trying new restaurants rather than eating home every night.

Am I alone?

Re: Do you cook every night?

NO! I'm like you and I do not cook on weekends either. I usually cook about 2 - 3 times a week. Depending on if DH is home or not and I feel like it. Not all dinners are tough. Some nights I'll just grilled cheese and soup and other nights I'll make a lasagna or marinated chicken. I always like to have a vegetable with dinner.

Friday we either have plans to go out or see friends or we order in (usually in the winter). Saturdays and Sundays we try to make plans too... date night, go out to eat, go to friends, have friends over for dinner, etc. In the summer we love having friends over by the pool and do a lot of grilling. DH is in charge of grilling.

So, to answer your question... Nope Chat Icon

We pretty much eat at home every night unless we get together with friends or family. In part it's to save money since we're on one moderate income. The bigger reason for us is dh has a severe gluten intolerance. Eating out is more stressful than me cooking bc he worries about getting sick and there only a few places we know and trust. I definitely enjoy eating out and miss getting a break more often but it's not a big deal to be and I enjoy trying new recipes all the time. We also eat breakfast and lunch at home or pack it.

Re: Do you cook every night?

Pretty much. We order takeout maybe once a week, more like 2x a month. It just seems easier to cook, especially in the winter.

I think it's that I get so bored eating at home, sitting at home, I don't know, it gets depressing in the winter and I need to get out or at least have a yummy pizza to look forward to rather than chicken and veges
LOL

Re: Do you cook every night?

Most weeknights, yes, I do cook. But for the most part, they're quick dinners: salad topped with a vegetarian protein/veggie burgers/stuffed baked sweet potatoes/soup and sandwiches/stir fries.

Fridays I usually order in. Some Saturdays we have plans with friends; if we don't, then I usually cook something that takes more time. Cooking is really therapeutic for me.

And Sundays, I spend a couple hours prepping lunches for the week and doing some meal prep for dinners for the week. That's why I'm able to cook most nights after work: I'll bake sweet potatoes, cube and bake tofu so they're crispy, etc. and just have things ready to go. Since Sunday is spent doing all that, we often have a "snacky" dinner...cheese and crackers, hummus, hot appetizers, things like that.

Re: Do you cook every night?

I cook most meals, most of them are something quick since I work. Sundays I will usually make the "big" meal, since I have more time to prepare it, or I will cook multiple meals to have on hand for the week. We have salad with just about every meal, so on the weekends I wash and prep a lot of the salad items so it doesn't take me long to put together a salad during the week.

We do takeout and eat out once in a while. Sure, I love the convenience, but it gets expensive.

We have zero set schedule - but do eat out fairly frequently. Usually every Fri and/or Sat we eat out. Sunday I don't mind cooking usually, but that depends on what we area doing during the day. During the week - if I go to the gym after work, I'll make something quick. If I am going home right from work, I might actually "cook" something. But, then there are nights that I meet up with a friend after work, so DH is on his own. We are really all over the place

I have thought the same! Amazed people cook every night. I cook probably three times per week. Two nights of left overs or something frozen from Trader Joe's. The rest we do take out, usually two nights. With working part time with three kids, one a newborn, I just don't have the time to cook every night.

No way. I post a dinner plan but its not all made that night. I watch my weight and my spending so eating at home is the best solution. DDs like to eat out but also ask for home cooked meals.

I shop and either make a couple of meals or prep on sunday. We eat leftovers during week at least 1x. Longer oven time meals are on sunday. Some weekdays i prep later at night for the next day (like a crockpot meal).

If I cook on a weeknight its something like a bag of salad with some other veggies, instant brown rice and seared salmon. Tacos, quesadillas with pre made meat or canned beans are quick weeknight meals

We eat out on weekends and order pizza or chinese takeout but its random no routine

Re: Do you cook every night?

It's impossible for me to cook every night. I do meal prep in Sunday and then maybe cook 1 or 2 meals a day ahead during the week.

I'm trying to lose weight so this is the best option and the amount of money we spend on eating out is astronomical. Plus if I don't cook, my son would be having cereal for dinner everyday.Chat Icon

Do you cook every night?

With 5 kids between the ages of 7 months & 5, there is no way I am cooking every night! We also don't go out to eat unless it's for a family birthday or other event, for that same reason. Every Friday night we do take out- pizza, chinese, mexican, or DH will pick up diner food on his way home from work. I would say we eat fresh, home cooked meals 3-4 nights a week. The other nights it is either leftovers, or just pasta with sauce (I make a huge pot and freeze smaller portions), or soup & sandwiches...some nights the kids get mac & cheese. There is no way I could cook 7 nights a week.

Do you cook every night?

I cook more or less every night - sometimes we have leftovers. We rarely go out to eat or get take out.

I should say we have a home cooked meal almost every night. I usually prep the meals on Sunday.

We usually go out to eat once on the weekend. The rest of the week I cook, but I always make enough for leftovers, so I'm not necessarily cooking every night (except for some quick side dishes).

I never ever used to cook on the weekends but we are trying to go strictly Paleo until we get back on track from the holidays so we cooked both nights this weekend. I try to prep meals on Sunday for the week or have something precooked from Trader Joes because I have no time to cook when I get home from work. It is never anything elaborate. Meat/Fish and a veg. The menu thread always amazes me too!

Do you cook every night?

I have to cook for budget reasons. I am no longer a full time or even part-time working mom anymore, and we have to really watch every single penny. DH is trim, but he eats like 3 dudes, so going out to eat is ridiculously expensive with him (unless it's ayce Sushi lol)
I just plan carefully and do it as easily as possible. I try to buy stuff like boneless skinless chicken so it's quicker, but sometimes if it's much more expensive, I don't buy it. I sometimes buy in bulk and regroup and freeze stuff, but seriously it's a lot of work. I love convenience but it costs $$$$$

We go out to eat maybe once a month/once every 2 months. I hate cooking every single night and I love being served a meal I can eat fresh without screaming children or songs playing in the background, or constantly being asked for napkins, water, more cheese, peel my apple Chat Icon
Ok vent over. Going to go defrost dinner now. Chat Icon

Same here.

I plan our meals for the week and do our grocery shopping on Sunday. Do I always stick to my plan? Not at all! I'd say I cook at least 5 nights a week.

Re: Do you cook every night?

We eat out 1-2 times a week. But sometimes it can be more and sometimes it can be less. I basically make a plan, but not everything gets made, so it will go on the following week's plan.

Hello Fresh has helped out a lot during the week. On weekends, I tend to spend a bit more time in the kitchen cooking items I have on a "cooking bucket list." For example, this weekend I want to do fried chicken and homemade sourdough bread (I'm in the process of reviving my sourdough starter). I'll probably get to one of those at least.

We try to eat in 5x a week or so. My DH does most of the cooking (if he's home) and I cook on Fridays and the weekends. I'm trying to lose weight and I find it's easier to prep our own food.

DH isn't home every night (work) so on those nights I prep something quick for myself (leftovers, omlet, sandwich).

Our kids are picky so they eat their own thing every night.

Re: Do you cook every night?

No. I hate cooking and meal planning. It's my least favorite part of adulting, lol.

Adding that my son eats w his father 2 nights a week and my BF bowls 2 nights a week (one overlaps). We really only cook Mondays. I eat whatever bs my son eats on Tuesdays and Thursdays (grilled cheese, etc) Wednesday I usually have like cheese and crackers

The weekends we usually order or go out. We definitely go out the weekends we do not have the kidsChat Icon
