Do you ever drink at home alone?
I mean beer or wine. I was talking to a friend the other night and was told that drinking alone (being the only one drinking or physically alone) is white trash. I was completely taken aback because I don't think there is anything wrong with having a glass of wine or two or a couple of beers at night after work, etc. I do this more these days because I hardly ever go out and I do enjoy beer and wine. However, I never get drunk and think that maybe someone who drinks to get drunk should rethink what they are doing. Anyway, what do you think? (note - the person that told me this is only an ocassional light drinker)

Re: Do you ever drink at home alone?
I don't think white trash is the appropriate term at all. Maybe if you were drinking 40s alone? Having a few glasses of wine is fine - I did it before I was pregnant and after I have this child I will DEFINITELY be doing it.

Re: Do you ever drink at home alone?
I see nothing wrong with having an occasional glass of wine, or even a beer or two, after a long hard day at work.
If DH is working or traveling or whatever on a Friday night, and I'm home alone, I'll cozy up on the couch and relax with a glass of wine. I don't think that's white trash....I think it's a pretty relaxing way to spend an evening!
But then again...that may be my white-trash side of me talking!

I don't think that is white trash at all! I see NOTHING wrong with it, but I don't do it. I am not a big drinker though.

Re: Do you ever drink at home alone?
Saying that someone who has a drink or two by themselves is "white trash" is harsh. I see nothing wrong with this. I, myself, do not drink. I used to in my younger days, but, lost my taste for it a long time ago. Does this person have any alcoholics in her family? This may be where she is coming from.

Re: Do you ever drink at home alone?
Drinking alone is on the checklist to determine whether you are an alcoholic or have a problem with alcohol. I think this has more to do with getting drunk alone rather than the occasional glass of wine with dinner or after work.
I'm not a big drinker so my answer is no.
As for the white trash comment, if she's correct then our country is made up of white trash. My friend's husband is a wine collector on the Board of Directors of many charities, etc, making well over seven figures. I hardly think he's white trash because he opens a bottle of wine after work.

White trash right here.
If a glass is white trash, what would she call a whole bottle? (in my defense, it was a good TV night, I got carried away!)

Re: Do you ever drink at home alone?
I don't see anything wrong with it, unless it becomes such a habit that you (in the general sense) NEED to drink alone everyday.
I do have the occasional glass of wne, so put me in the white trash caregory.

Re: Do you ever drink at home alone?
I think calling any single activity "white trash" is just ignornant. I think if driking alone, as in heavy drinking becomes a habit it's a cause for concern about dependence, etc. But I know a lot of people muyself incluided, who will pour a cold beer or a glass of wine, or evena cocktail after a hard day at work

The last day of my vacation from in between jobs, I purchased a small bottle of champagne and celebrated by myself.
Best day ever!

Re: Do you ever drink at home alone?
maybe getting Sh*tfaced drunk alone (and on a regular basis) could be a sign of a "problem" but I have no problem with putting my children to sleep and having a glass of wine-or depending on what kind of day it was, a martini by myself

Re: Do you ever drink at home alone?
I've done it but it's no fun. So I usually just keep it to a glass of wine when I get home from work or a cocktail by the pool in the summer to relax. For me, part of the fun of drinking is having other people with you and just acting all stupid!
