Do you feel "Guilty"...
When someone buys you a gift of high value (price) and you can't reciprocate?
Over the years, I have had friends and family members give me gifts that I almost feel guilty for taking because I know that I can't really do the same for them.
Anyone else feel this way??

I appreciate gifts, big or small. I don't believe people that buy you expensive gifts expect you to recipricate. It's not a contest.

Re: Do you feel "Guilty"...
I'm saving my pennies to give my sister a college graduation present, a trip for the two of us to India.
I would HATE for her to feel guilty over it, so i'd say that your gift givers probably feel the same. If they really couldn't afford it or expected the same back, they wouldn't be giving it to you. Enjoy!

Re: Do you feel "Guilty"...
I don't feel that I need to reciprocate with an equally pricey gift, but I do feel that I need to get them a nice "thank you" gift...or super long card.
Becca - that's an awesome gift for your sister. You're a great big sis!

Re: Do you feel "Guilty"...
No. My SIL is the only one that over does it. Now I love that she loves us that much but she also is compulsive spender. I'm not sure what % of it is trying to outdo me, what % is trying to do more for us now so when we have to take care of her in retirement I feel I have to (she has no retirement plan except to sell her house?!), and what % is her compulsive problem. But since I can't/won't go into debt like her for anything I cannot reciprocate. I don't feel guilty.

Re: Do you feel "Guilty"...
That never happens to me, it's usually the opposite. I'm always the one to go overboard, even though I can't afford it.

Re: Do you feel "Guilty"...
If I ever go over board with a gift it is because I want to - not because I expect it in return. I love to buy gifts for people and put a lot of thought into it.
