do you feel "rushed" at OB appointments?

does anyone else feel like this?

whenever i go to the OB i feel like she is running out the door before i get a chance to ask all my questions. it's a constant struggle that i just hate! i feel like a number, not a patient. just wondering if this is healthcare as we now know it, or are there dr.'s out there that actually take more than the alloted 5-10 minutes per patient?

Sometimes I do. It depends on what doctor I see. But if I have a few questions I ask them all anyway.

I've had two appointments already and I feel like she's got me in and out within 5 minutes. Unfortunately I wind up spending anywhere from 20 min. to an hour in the waiting room. Chat Icon

Re: do you feel "rushed" at OB appointments?

It really depends, most of the Drs at my practice are very calm, easy going, sit and give me a few minutes of "chat" about the baby's progress, ask me if I have any questions, prep me about what will happen at next visit, really never make me feel rushed...

At my last dr's office Chat Icon there was one DR that did this all the time andI stopped seeing her. I was literally out in less than 5min, she just heard the HB and took it off me, was very "down to business, IN OUT DONE" and I hated it. barely any conversation, and totally made it feel rushed.

Yes, I understand they ARE quick visits, but sheesh make someone feel HUMAN and make a woman cherish these amazing moments.

My Dr's now all listen to the HB for a few secs at least, say something funny, its just not rushed at all, but of course we dont sit and coffee or anything either Chat Icon
well my OB is the one who gave my son his first lollipop last time around Chat Icon

If this is happening too much, you should see another DR in the practice, or try to slow it down yourself, ask whatever questions you have, and if need be, change practice if you find other reasons or if this lack of attention goes on in other visits too...
sorry to ramble Chat Icon

I go to a sole practioner and he answers any questions I have during the exam itself, and then he always has a one on one consult with you in his office before you go so you can bring up any other questions or concerns at that time.

I do feel this way sometimes at the peditrician, but it's a very busy office. I understand that, but at the same time it gets frustrating.

Re: do you feel "rushed" at OB appointments?

I only had 1 appointment so far...and no, I didn't feel rushed. The doctor was an hour late because he was at the hospital...the waiting room was full (I was the first patient of the day) and I definitely thought he would rush because he was so far behind...but he didn't. He even had a consult with us in his office before I was brought into the exam room. I'll let you know if I still feel this way after my next appointment on April 24th.

I don't. My doctor works on his own and after every exam, we sit in his office and discuss whatever needs to be discussed. Then I leave his office whenever I am done.

To me, feeling comfortable with a doctor was very important. I have a lot of question and wanted someone who will answer them. I hate feeling like I am being pushed otu the door- especially if I have to wait.

when i brought DH with me last visit she sat down for a while and spoke to us so i thought things were getting better, then this morning (i went w/out DH) i felt she was back to being road runner!

i'm 31 weeks and not about to change...i do get my questions in and answered, but they are with her one foot out the door Chat Icon ...

next time around though i'll be looking for someone else Chat Icon

Re: do you feel "rushed" at OB appointments?

My dr. usually answers any questions I have. he asks me several times if I have any questions. I don't feel rushed, but the appointments do tend to end quickly. But, i don't like to go to drs that talk a lot about things other than the reason I am there.

sometimes. for the most part, they are very good though. It seems like it depends on the day - like how they are running schedule-wise at that point. If the waiting room is backed up - I feel rushed. They do let me get all of my questions out though. Sometimes, you just need to speak up and tell them - "I have a few questions for you, I hope you dont mind...." so that they know not to rush you out.

sometimes, I want them to hurry though., It gets frustrating going there and waiting every 2 weeks...LOL

It depends on which dr. I see. For the most part, though, no, I do not feel rushed. When I don't have a lot of questions, my dr. usually asks me if I'm SURE i don't have any moreChat Icon

I NEVER felt that way with Dr. Hanauer. She always answered my questions and I swear sometimes I was in there for like an hour!

My dr takes so much time with me!! I love him!! My suggestion if you are not comfortable with your OB, change. I did. I changed dr's at about 15 weeks and I am so happy I did. It was the best decision I ever made.
