Do you give a gift for a college graduation even if there is no party?
My cousin's son graduated from Hofstra and I'm contemplating if I should send a gift. There was no party. (I think the parents just took him to dinner) I see these relatives for a holidays only. They are very wealthy and were very generous to us 8 months ago for our wedding, so thats why I am thinking that I should send something. However, when the brother graduated college two years ago, I did not send a gift for 2 reasons (1) He just got engaged and I sent an engagement gift and (2) Money was very tight because I was planning my own wedding. If I do send a gift, do you think a Gift card to a restaurant is good? The graduate is very spoiled and has everything handed to him. I don't want to send a check, because in the past when I have sent checks for a gift, they weren't cashed for over 6 months. FYI-Money is not flowing for DH and I and we are no a budget. WWYD.

I probably wouldn't send anything, a wedding and graduation are a big difference IMO when that child gets married i would just give a nice gift

What about something related to job hunting (like a nice leather padfolio) or something for his first real job?

Thanks. That is a very good idea, but everything you give them, has to be designer names and it would probably cost more than I plan on spending.
BTW-best of luck to you in the coming days.

probably not, maybe a card. unless I was really close with this person, then I would buy a gift.

Re: Do you give a gift for a college graduation even if there is no party?
I didn't have a college grad party, & I think I received gifts from my aunts & uncles & grandparents--the same people that would ( at that time) buy me Christmas gifts & send me $ for my birthday.
I was wondering the same for a HS graduation we have coming up, and I am leaning towards yes. ETA- don't feel you have to overspend, b/c the kid comes from money. Spend what you feel comfortable with. A gift card is fine, but be careful, b/c I have had them lost/stolen in the mail.

I didn't have a college grad party, and I did not receive gifts from my aunts/uncles, so I don't think it is necessary. A card is fine. Whatever gift card you give him will probably mean nothing to him, so I wouldn't waste the money.

It really depends on the relationship you have with the graduate. I think a card would be sufficient in this case.

I think graduation is a big deal. I would send something, even if it's a token..

I would send a card, if you really want to send something how about a gift relating to job hunting or a new job. I think a nice card just showing you cared would be nice.

I would send a little something. A GC to a restaurant would be fine.
My cousin just graduated from college but is not having a party and I am sending him a gift.

I still send a gift. My cousin graduated from medical school on Thursday and got married on Saturday and I gave him gifts for both.
