do you give $ to every person who leaves work?

Everytime someone leaves a job I am working at they always collect funds but I noticed when the younger people leave they just say goodbye. I always feel bad about not giving money so I do anyway but I never feel like they ask for $ for the younger workers. Do you give in when asked for $?

usually - if its for a wedding shower or baby shower...but it can get to be a lot

Yes We do at my Job if someone leaves the job because of A new job, retiring, death in the family, birthday I am the one who does the collection and sometimes i am the one who wil go out and Buy a cake but most of the time they make the cake there at work and i pick up the cards and scratchoffs!

we never give money when someone leaves? We have a party maybe, but what would they need money for?

We pass around an envelope & people can decide whether to contribute or not.

Wow I have never heard of that. Giving them a good bye party cake and card yes but giving them money???????

No one ever really left nicely if it was voluntarily (if they quit they would either not show up for 3 days, send an email or call their manager that they quit).

We did take up a collection for a co-worker whose very ill MIL passed away. We booked her and her husbands ticket and the total came to over $800. Everyone gave some money which totaled about $200. The COO and Executive director matched that and paid for her ticket.

I am sorry, I didnt make my point clear. By $ I meant being asked for 10 dollars to chip in for a cake, flowers etc... I could know this person for a day and they want my $. I think it would be easier if it were an option rather than always feeling like i was on the spot to give 10 bucks bc someone was leaving their position. In terms of marriage, death or baby shower...I would probably not have a problem giving in $ if I were friends with the person. I just hate these farewell $ contributions to people I really do not know.

We don't have that high a turnover at my job, but we do spend a lot of $$$ on birthdays, etc. and we have found that collecting a set amount from each employee once a month to cover all birthday/retirement/quitting parties works the best.

we throw a party and give gifts/money to people who have worked with us for some time.
We are generous with the people we call family...
newer people...get nothing

I have never heard of giving someone money for leaving a job. I've had many jobs but nobody ever asked me to do this! What is the money for?

Our office collects every time someone leaves. They usually get a gift card and party. I do resent giving for people who just started working there--last week we had a baby shower for a guy who started a few months ago, and who I know is applying for other jobs. I did kind of resent that. People who have been there a while I don't mind--they had a wedding shower for me--but people who have only been there a little while...
