Do you give your DC sweets around the holidays?
Like at parties and stuff?
DD has not been a big vegetable eater anyways, and we've been giving her some sweets at parties (DH has been particularly doing this ).
My mom, of course, has to say tonight, stop giving her sweets she won't eat anything else anymore. I didn't think it would be a big deal but now I'm like, wait, maybe we shouldn't cause she'll get used to it.
Just curious what ya'll do

Re: Do you give your DC sweets around the holidays?
I never ever give my kids sweets. They have cake on their birthday but made with pumpkin and cake mix because of allergies..regular frosting. This year I made vegan brownies and one of my sons was obsessed with them.. We actually had to hide them! I don;t think its bad as long as she is eating her regular meals. I tell them everything is all gone or went night night

Re: Do you give your DC sweets around the holidays?
Yes, I see nothing wrong with a few sweets every now and then. My DH loves to bake on the weekends, so we sometimes give DS a little of what ever he makes. The only thing I try to never give DS is candy, and he has never had soda.

I do...here and there. I see no reason to say no all the time.

Yes. I don't really keep sweets in the house , except for lollipops. But when we are at parties, year round, DD gets sweets.

Re: Do you give your DC sweets around the holidays?
No
Why bother? Holidays are not an exception for behavior. She is 2 and doesn't understand what the season is about or why. Much less would she understand its a 'special time' to eat something 'new'
She doesn't eat sweets. end of story. No need to start now. It will come I'm sure. But I won't push it.
For me its a total waste.
Oh and that goes for us as well. I don't do candy and such so she's not exposed to it. On holidays I may indulge in pie or cake or baked goods but I don't offer it to her.
I am certainly not 'hurting her' or depriving her.
We do however, always, make sure she has sweets in her world. Which means blueberries, strawberries, pineapples, etc. She thinks she's in heaven and I'm happy it's a healthier choice.

Re: Do you give your DC sweets around the holidays?
Yes. I don't allow him to have sweets on a regular basis but at birthday parties he gets his cake, at christmas he will get a candy cane, at a holiday party today he had straight juice (I usually water it down). Special treats for special occasions.

of course. DS gets them regardless of the time of year. he is a fabulous eater so i dont see the harm in a little sugar once and a while.

Re: Do you give your DC sweets around the holidays?
I bake cookies at Christmastime, so DD will get one here & there - not on a regular basis. She'll also be allowed to have dessert on Christmas night. I know *she* doesn't understand it's special, but *I* do, and it's perfectly acceptable to me as a once- in-a-while thing.

Re: Do you give your DC sweets around the holidays?
Yes. My children have a sweet treat every night though regularly.....a cookie, a small serving of pudding or jello, a graham cracker or animal cracker, etc. We do what works for us.
ETA: And my kids know if they don't eat their meals, then they don't get a sweet treat.

Re: Do you give your DC sweets around the holidays?
probably a little more during the holidays than other times in the year, but I don't buy the "if you give them sweets they'll never eat anything else" mantra. DS of course would prefer a diet of all cookies and candy (as would I) but he still eats 3 meals a day, and eats tons of fruits and veggies. I don't see it interfering with his regular meal routines. If I did then I would likely change my mind about sweets.

Re: Do you give your DC sweets around the holidays?
I offer DS sweets if I bake them or we have them at a party, but more often than not, he turns it down. He doesn't really like chocolate and he also doesn't like ice cream. I don't see anything wrong with offering an occasional treat.

Re: Do you give your DC sweets around the holidays?
I wasn't planning on keeping any extra sweets, like candy or chocolate but both Grandmas have been offering to DS . MY MIL will offer DS m&ms without asking. Yesterday my mother brought by a chocolate santa but at least asked me first. I'll let him have some now, but I usually don't keep any in the house - not for him, anyway!

Re: Do you give your DC sweets around the holidays?
My DS gets sweets all the time So far he is still breathing but in all seriousness, I'm a big sweet eater and my DS gets dessert about every 2-3 nights, plus at parties. He will definitely be spoiled over the holidays. He eats plenty of fruits and some veggies so I'm not worried.
DD (9 months) gets the occasional taste of cake but that's it.

I give my kids sweets all year round. I don't see any reason to deprive them. We try to keep it balanced and my DD is really good at regulating herself with sweets/junk.

Re: Do you give your DC sweets around the holidays?
My DD has sweets and goodies. I don't see the big deal. It's not like she eats that stuff all the time but when we're at parties or it's a holiday she sees all the goodies and asks for cookies and cake. We give her a little, she's happy, and then she moves on. Everything in moderation!

Re: Do you give your DC sweets around the holidays?
DD gets sweets on occasion. At the holidays it is especially hard to avoid them. I just limit the amount she has. And I make it clear to everyone (MIL) that she is not allowed to have anymore!

Re: Do you give your DC sweets around the holidays?
I do-how else will she learn how to eat them in moderation?
If they are forbidden, she will obsess over them.
Since she has them every now and then I can say "no, maybe later" when she asks to have a cookie or a "treat".
